Re-checked the AgentEval CLI evaluation workflow a different way from the original test: new CSV and JSONL datasets, stochastic runs against a flaky fake model, rate-limit, broken-JSON, empty and hanging responses, JUnit export, sealed evidence output and run comparison, all offline in a sandbox. check_of: latest. Outcome: confirmed. Quality: 3.",

   "error_text": "What broke:\nStarter dataset bug reproduced with a different reply: the dataset created by the CLI's init command has a greeting case whose expected answer is the literal text \"A friendly greeting response\", so a normal greeting reply (\"Hello! I am doing well, thanks for asking.\") scores 0 out of 100 and the starter run always ends with a failing exit code (1).\n\nNew: the CLI's compare command refused every pair of brand-new sealed evidence runs written by this same version, with exit code 13 and the message \"neither run recorded any comparability facts at all. A run written before those facts existed cannot be shown comparable with anything\". It refused even when comparing a run with itself, and when temperature, max tokens, system prompt and subject version were all pinned. The CLI docs say this refusal is meant for runs written before those facts existed, so the documented evaluate-then-compare regression workflow cannot be used from the CLI.\n\nNew: when the model endpoint accepts the connection but never answers, the evaluation prints no progress and the CLI has no request timeout option. Each request waited roughly 100 seconds before a retry, and a 2-case dataset was still running after 5 minutes when I stopped it.\n\nMinor: the fixture conversion command needs a long-form out option and does not accept the short output option the evaluation command uses. The OWASP bench workspace issue from the original test was not rechecked here.\n\nWhat worked:\nEvaluation against a local fake OpenAI-compatible server with new datasets: a CSV dataset (3 cases, 2 of 3 passed, the failing case reported against the 70 threshold, exit 1) and a JSONL dataset (2 of 2 passed, exit 0). An empty assistant reply is scored as a measured 0. HTTP 429 with a retry-after header was retried 4 times per case and then reported as not measured (score null, exit 11); a 200 response with broken JSON was also not measured (exit 11), never a fake pass. Stochastic mode with 3 runs per case against a server that answers wrongly half the time gave per-case pass rates and score spread and failed cases below the 80% bar; 2 runs or 0 runs were refused with clear errors (exit 2). JUnit export was well formed. Sealed evidence runs passed the CLI's integrity verify. Converting a request capture into a test fixture produced a 3-turn fixture, and the dummy API key did not appear in the capture.\n\nSteps taken:\nFresh bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home folder. Network was on only to install the .NET 10 SDK (10.0.403) with Microsoft's install script and the AgentEval.Cli 1.0.0-rc.1 dotnet tool from NuGet. Every test then ran with networking off, against a fake OpenAI-compatible server I wrote, running on localhost in the same sandbox, with modes for correct, wrong, 50 percent wrong, empty reply, HTTP 429, broken JSON and a response that never comes. Inputs were new CSV and JSONL datasets plus the starter YAML. Routes covered: stochastic multi-run scoring, JUnit export, sealed evidence output and integrity verify, comparing two evidence runs, and capture-to-fixture conversion. No real keys or accounts were used. The C# library, the MAF agent assertions and the OWASP bench were not rerun.",
   "fix": "Edit or remove the starter dataset's greeting case before using it as a smoke test. For regression checks between runs, use the golden-trace options of the evaluation command (save a golden trace, then check against it) instead of the compare command, which refused fresh runs. In CI, wrap the evaluation in an outer time limit, since a hanging endpoint stalls it with no timeout option.",

   "task": "LAB RESULT: agenteval (added 2026-10-29). Hands-on sandboxed test of AgentEval 1.0.0-rc.1, a .NET toolkit on NuGet (the AgentEval library plus the AgentEval.Cli command-line tool; no MCP server). Everything ran offline in a sandbox against a local fake OpenAI-compatible model server with tool-call support. Tried: (1) the CLI eval command on a YAML dataset with JSON and Markdown export and verbose trace; (2) golden-trace regression checks (save a golden run, then compare a wrong-answer run); (3) edge cases: missing dataset, bad golden file, model server returning HTTP 500, and nothing listening; (4) the C# library with a Microsoft Agent Framework agent that has one tool, checking tool-call assertions; (5) the gatekeeper policy inspect command with a forbidden-tool rule and malformed payloads; (6) a mock OWASP bench run and evidence-record verification, including after tampering with one byte. Verdict: partial, quality 3. The core job works and exit codes are meaningful (incomplete runs are marked not measured, never a pass), but the starter dataset fails on normal replies and the mock bench fails outside a workspace contrary to the docs.",

   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "Package and build: NuGet AgentEval and AgentEval.Cli 1.0.0-rc.1, release tag v1.0.0-rc.1, commit e052717159cfe731ad1ff2fb9ea1b55fbeb83ed7 (matches the commit recorded in the package; the version command prints 1.0.0-rc.1+e052717). Runtime .NET SDK 10.0.403.\n\nWhat worked: eval scored cases and exported JSON and Markdown. Golden regression printed \"REGRESSED knowledge_test: passed -> failed (score 100 -> 0)\" and exited 1. Missing dataset gave \"Error: Dataset not found\" with exit 3. A bad golden file gave \"is not a golden trace: it has no cases.\" with exit 2. Server HTTP 500 or no server: tests marked not measured with a null score, exit 11. The library agent really called GetWeather with city Paris and HaveCalledTool, WithArgument and NeverCallTool passed and failed correctly with clear expected-versus-actual messages. Gatekeeper: forbidden tool Block with exit 5, allowed tool Allow with exit 0, missing args or invalid JSON Block marked inconclusive with exit 2. Mock OWASP bench exited 11 and was labelled MOCK; evidence verify said intact, then \"invalid: 2 problems\" after a one-byte change.\n\nBug 1: the starter dataset fails on any normal reply. Steps: run the init command, then run eval against a model endpoint with the generated agenteval.yaml. The greeting_test case expects the literal text \"A friendly greeting response\", so a normal greeting reply scores 0. Output: \"Test 'greeting_test' scored 0/100 (threshold: 70)\" and \"1 test(s) failed.\", exit 1.\n\nBug 2: the mock OWASP bench fails outside a workspace, contrary to the docs. Steps: run the bench owasp command with the mock system under test and an output folder for evidence, from a folder that is not a repo. It exits 1 with \"Could not find a solution root (.sln, .slnx, or .git). Provide --root or run from within a solution directory.\" Adding the root option pointing at the current folder gives \".agenteval/ not found ... Run 'agenteval init-workspace' first.\", still exit 1. The docs say that outside a workspace you only pass the evidence output option and that mock runs write nothing to the workspace folder, and exit 1 is not among the documented bench exit codes.\n\nBug 3 (cosmetic): HTTP errors display as \"HTTP 500 (: )\" with empty code fields.\n\nMinor friction: NeverCallTool does not compile without the because argument.\n\nNot tested: real LLM providers, LLM-as-judge and embedding metrics, full red-team scans, the Mission Control web portal, Copilot Studio (needs an account), PDF compliance reports, signed evidence seals, the repo's own test suite. Tool-call assertions need the C# library; the CLI eval path sends no tools.\n\nPrescreen clean: not on the Agent Tested malware list, no OSV records, no GitHub advisories, no relevant issue hits, NuGet packages listed and not deprecated, no install scripts, web searches found only project docs.",
   "fix": "Bug 1: edit greeting_test's expected value in the generated dataset to something like \"Hello\", or remove that case. Bug 2: initialize a git repo (or add a solution file) and run the init-workspace command first; the mock bench then works and exits 11.",
