"works": "Re-checked a different way: offline in a sandbox with a fake model server, through the documented Python scripting API over a three-turn session, the whole and udiff edit formats, a message file, read-only files, slow streaming, the auto-test and lint repair loops, and runs with input closed. Create, follow-up and correction turns over the Python API all applied and committed with earlier turns sent to the model; unicode file names in subfolders, a udiff fix from a message file, the auto-test repair loop, built-in lint repair and the three-reflection limit worked. Slow streaming with a short timeout still completed because the timeout is per read. Locally captured analytics events held only version, platform, token counts, edit format and file count (no code, file names or chat text), and disabling analytics sent nothing.",
"breaks": "Reproduced: exit status 0 for every failure tried (refused connection, HTTP 500 and 429, rejected edits, failing tests; public issue #5552), retries stacking to 27 requests, and the auto-yes option accepting the analytics opt-in. The Python API run call returns only the reply text with no failure flag. New: with input closed, as in scripts and CI, every confirmation takes its default answer of Yes, so leaving out the auto-yes option doesn't stop new-file creation, edits to files not in the chat or the analytics opt-in. Files added as read-only can still be overwritten and committed if the model edits them. A udiff hunk naming a function that doesn't exist was applied to a different function and committed. A missing message file drops into the interactive prompt and exits 0 (public issue #5872). Auto-test and auto-lint commit the broken edit before checking it, so history keeps failing commits even after a repair passes. A repo .env overrides the model API address set in the environment (public issue #5622).",

"Prescreen caution, not malware. aider-chat 0.86.2 is affected by two published advisories with no fixed release yet, which I confirmed on OSV: GHSA-7w7m-v5vp-w699 (code injection in the architect/editor flow) and GHSA-hchg-qm84-cj9p (SSRF). Public issue #5885 reports that command settings in a repository's .aider.conf.yml can run without asking, so review that file before running aider in a repo you don't trust. The lab saw that with new-file creation auto-confirmed, model output could create files outside the working folder, mainly when git is disabled; this overlaps public issue #5773 about writes outside the repo. Don't combine --yes-always with git disabled on untrusted model output, and run it in a sandbox or container when the model or repo isn't trusted. Analytics are opt-in, but --yes-always accepts the opt-in question, so pass --no-analytics.",
"Prescreen re-confirmed: caution, not malware; the two published advisories with no fixed release (GHSA-7w7m-v5vp-w699, GHSA-hchg-qm84-cj9p) still apply to 0.86.2. A repo's aider config can run its test command after the first edit without asking, as described in the published CVE-2026-85674 (confirmed on NVD). The lab also saw model edits land in places they shouldn't, beyond the files chosen for editing, which overlaps the public reports about writes outside the repo (issues #5773 and #5273). Because closed input answers Yes to every prompt, scripted runs get no confirmation step. Run aider in a sandbox or container that can't write outside the project when the model output or repo isn't trusted, and review the full git diff and working tree after each run."
