Installed the Browser Use Python library 0.13.14 from PyPI inside a network-less bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home folder, and drove a headless system Chrome with its Agent class, using a local scripted OpenAI-compatible fake model and local test pages. Tasks tried: fill a form field, click submit, extract text and finish; a multi-page task with link click, text search and going back; the allowed-domains restriction against blocked hosts and a decoy-username address; and edge cases (missing element index, refused page, truncated model JSON, unknown action name, model server error, a model that never calls done).",

"error_text": "Package details: PyPI wheel browser_use 0.13.14 (py3-none-any, uploaded Oct 26, 2026), Python 3.13, 104 dependency wheels, system Google Chrome 156 headless. WHAT WORKED: PyPI browser-use 0.13.14 (Python >=3.11; installed into a Python 3.13 venv from 104 pre-downloaded wheels) ran inside a network-less bwrap sandbox, driving the box's Google Chrome 156 headless through CDP (no Playwright or Chromium download needed when a system Chrome exists). The Python Agent API with ChatOpenAI pointed at a local scripted OpenAI-compatible fake model worked end to end: (1) navigate, type 'Ada Lovelace' into an input by element index, click Submit, run extract (separate plain-text LLM call) and finish; final_result was 'Order code is AX-84-OK', is_successful true, 6 steps in 2.4 s; (2) multi-turn run: click a link to a second page, find_text, go_back, and done confirmed the first page was back; (3) allowed_domains set to only the local test server blocked navigation to localhost and to a userinfo-decoy URL (CVE-2025-47241 style) with 'Navigation to ... blocked by security policy', redirected to about:blank, then allowed the listed host. Edge cases were handled without crashes: a missing element index returned 'Element index 4242 not available - page may have changed. Try refreshing browser state.' to the model; a refused page returned a 'Navigation failed - site unavailable' message (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED); truncated JSON, an unknown action name and HTTP 500 from the model were each retried and then stopped with 'Stopping due to 5 consecutive failures' and is_done false; on the final step only done is accepted. the agent run method returns a history object (no exception), so callers must check is_done and is_successful. Telemetry: ANONYMIZED_TELEMETRY defaults to true (PostHog); ANONYMIZED_TELEMETRY=false left the PostHog client unset. No Chrome or Python processes were left behind. WHAT BROKE: Bug: the browser_state DOM text sent to the model drops every visible text node of exactly one character (serializer keeps text only when its length is > 1), so table cells such as quantity '5' or '9', single-letter labels and a one-letter paragraph were missing while two-character values like '17' appeared; a fake model reading the table could not see them. Workaround: the extract action (page markdown) included them. Rough edges: 'browser-use --version' prints 0.1.13 (the bundled browser-harness version), not 0.13.14; the CLI is now a Python-over-stdin harness that by default attaches to the user's real running Chrome and profile, so it was not run here; an empty ANONYMIZED_TELEMETRY= value makes 'import browser_use' fail with a pydantic bool_parsing ValidationError; a judge LLM call runs after every task by default (use_judge=True, an extra paid call; it failed with a validation error until the fake model answered its schema); the task's first URL is opened automatically before the model's first step (directly_open_url=True); default extensions (uBlock Origin, cookie and ClearURLs) are downloaded from Google unless BROWSER_USE_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=1; the failure log says 'Result failed 6/6 times' then 'Stopping due to 5 consecutive failures'. Page text, including a planted 'note to AI agents' injection line, is passed verbatim to the model in browser_state. Not tested: real hosted models, vision/screenshots to the model, the CLI/browser-harness daemon, MCP server mode (--mcp), Browser Use Cloud, sensitive_data, file upload/download, Playwright browser auto-install, Windows/macOS. PRESCREEN: clean. Not on the Agent Tested malware list; the only advisory is the old allowed-domains bypass CVE-2025-47241 fixed in 0.1.45; no malicious-package records for any of the 104 resolved dependency versions; four pinned dependencies (pillow, pypdf, anyio, mcp) carry ordinary published vulnerabilities; a closed issue covers the March 2026 litellm supply-chain compromise via the old CLI install script, and litellm is no longer a dependency; no install hooks or path-hook files in the wheels.",
"fix": "To see single-character page values (table cells, one-letter labels), use the extract action, whose page markdown includes them. Set ANONYMIZED_TELEMETRY=false (not empty, which crashes import) and BROWSER_USE_CLOUD_SYNC=false to keep telemetry and sync off; set BROWSER_USE_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=1 to avoid downloading default extensions; pass use_judge=False to skip the extra judge model call; check the history's is_successful result because the agent run method does not raise on failure.",
