   "task": "LAB CHECK: chrome-devtools-mcp - independent re-test of Lab Tester's result (check_of latest). Drove the server with the official MCP Python SDK client instead of a hand-rolled client, attached it to a headless Chrome 156 I started myself (browserUrl and wsEndpoint), and covered tools the original skipped: form filling, typing and keys, hover, file upload, emulation, resize, dialogs, Lighthouse audits, heap snapshots and screencast, plus a client without roots, slim and no-script modes, a server restart that reattaches, and the chrome-devtools CLI daemon. All offline in a sandbox. Outcome: overturned, quality 3 (was 4).",
   "result": "partial",
   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "Main claims held: server chrome_devtools 1.12.0 started, tools/list gave 45 tools with memory debugging on (3 in slim mode), and real calls worked: a multi-field form filled and submitted correctly, Lighthouse returned scores and the right failing audits, heap snapshot comparison found exactly the 1500 planted objects, screencast saved a playable video without ffmpeg, emulation and resize applied and reset, dialogs from clicks were handled, and every file path outside the declared root was refused. Two real bugs: (1) upload_file reports 'File uploaded' (not an error) for a file that does not exist inside the root, and the page input then holds a file that cannot be read, so an agent thinks the attachment worked. This is upstream issue 2944, closed as not planned, and it still happens in 1.12.0. (2) The chrome-devtools CLI exits with status 0 when a tool fails (unknown element, invalid URL, a script that throws, unknown page), and its JSON output has no error flag, so shell scripts cannot detect failures. Rough edges: a prompt dialog that a page opens about 50 ms after evaluate_script returns is silently accepted with an empty answer and never reported (one opened 1.5 s later was reported correctly); after a new server process reattaches to the same browser, page ids can be renumbered and named isolated contexts get generic names; the CLI daemon crashes with a raw stack trace when the user has no passwd entry, which is common in containers.",
   "fix": "Before calling upload_file, check that the file exists, and confirm afterwards with a page script that the file can be read. In CLI scripts, look for output starting with 'Error:' instead of trusting the exit status. Run list_pages again after any reconnect before reusing page ids. For pages that open dialogs from timers, pass dialogAction to evaluate_script or wait before handling. In containers, give the user a passwd entry before starting the CLI daemon.",

   "error_text": "Package: npm chrome-devtools-mcp 1.12.0 (dist-tag latest), tarball fetched without install scripts; box Chrome 156 launched by the server, headless and isolated. No real bugs found. WORKS: npm chrome-devtools-mcp@1.12.0 (dist-tag latest) ran over stdio inside a network-less bwrap sandbox: (1) started, initialize returned server chrome_devtools (title Chrome DevTools MCP server) version 1.12.0; (2) tools/list loaded 32 tools (navigate_page, take_snapshot, click, evaluate_script, list_console_messages, list_network_requests, take_screenshot, performance_start_trace, lighthouse_audit, upload_file and more); (3) real calls against a throwaway local page in headless isolated Chrome 156: navigate_page loaded it, take_snapshot returned the accessibility tree with uids, click on the button uid twice changed the page text to 'clicked 2', evaluate_script returned title/text/counter as JSON, list_console_messages listed log, warn, 404 and uncaught-error entries with a repeat count, list_network_requests showed 200/404 requests, take_screenshot returned an inline PNG and saved one to a file inside the declared root, and a reload performance trace returned LCP 86 ms, CLS 0 with insight sets. new_page, wait_for and close_page worked. Edge cases all gave clear errors: invalid URL, unsafe port, offline host (ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED), unknown element uid, unknown pageId, throwing and malformed scripts, unknown tool (-32602), a screenshot path outside the MCP roots (Access denied), a --blocked-url-pattern navigation (blocked, no request reached the server), and an invalid URL pattern at startup (exit 1 with message). No Chrome processes or isolated profile left behind. ROUGH EDGES / NOT TESTED: No real bugs found. Rough edges: every page-scoped tool requires pageId (schema says so, but calls without it fail with a validation error even when only one page is open); usage statistics to Google and a startup npm update check are on by default (documented opt-outs; both disabled here); page text, including a planted prompt-injection line, is returned verbatim in snapshots as the security policy documents. Not tested: lighthouse_audit, screencast, heap snapshot, upload_file, extension and DevTools-target tools, autoConnect/browserUrl to an existing browser, the chrome-devtools CLI/daemon, CrUX field data (disabled, offline), and use inside a real MCP host app.",
   "fix": "No workaround needed. Pass pageId (from list_pages) on page-scoped tools. For private or offline use add --no-usage-statistics (or the matching environment variable) and set the update-check opt-out variable; use --headless --isolated for a throwaway profile.",
