"works": "Re-checked a different way with the official MCP TypeScript SDK client over stdio, offline in a sandbox, on a new fixture (accented file names, relative, absolute, dangling and chained symlinks, a hardlink) and new config states. Server started as 0.3.1 with 25 tools; real file, search, edit and process calls worked, including a 3-turn interactive shell session. The folder limit held for every new symlink variant, including creating files through a symlinked folder (the earlier public symlink issue, fixed), and a config file with a syntax error was recovered with its limits kept.",
"breaks": "Confirmed the original findings: the command blocklist is easy to get around and isn't applied inside interactive sessions, the agent can widen its own allowed folders and the change persists (public issue 374), kill_process ends processes the server didn't start, and the write line limit isn't enforced. New: the blocklist is also not applied to start_process's choice of shell and misses more ordinary command forms; a hand-written config without a blockedCommands key, or with mixed-case entries, blocks nothing; an allowedDirectories value given as a string is silently replaced with the home folder and saved; process sessions are left running after the client disconnects; kill_process can end the server itself; start_process and edit_block don't flag failures as errors; a hardlink inside the allowed folder reaches the file it links to; content written with write_file is kept in plain text in local tool history logs (documented).",

"Prescreen caution, not malware: not on the Agent Tested malware list and no OSV records for 0.3.1. The install script sends a package-installed telemetry event with no opt-out (avoid by installing with scripts off), and usage telemetry is on by default but can be turned off. Neutral notes: the project's own security page says its folder and command limits are guardrails, not a sandbox; in testing the command blocklist and the agent's ability to change its own config were confirmed (both already public). Give it only the access you would give the connected agent's shell.",
"Neutral caution (confirmed and widened): Desktop Commander's folder and command limits do not contain an agent that is misled or misbehaving. Its own security page says they are guardrails, not a sandbox, and terminal commands can reach anything the user account can. This check found more ways the command limit and config handling fall short, none of which go beyond what the shell already allows. Run it in a container or VM with only the project folder mounted when untrusted content can reach the agent. No other new finding."
