Re-checked offline in a sandbox with my own fake model, embedded FalkorDB Lite, a separate FalkorDB server, Kuzu, and the official MCP Python SDK client over streamable HTTP and SSE with restarts; new inputs: unicode, 30-episode bulk add, many groups, time-travel and OR date filters, deletes. check_of latest. Outcome: confirmed, quality 3.",

   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "Confirmed from the original check:\n- Fresh install fails on import with a missing httpx module (OpenAI SDK 3 no longer brings it; graphiti-core does not declare it), public issue #1893.\n- Kuzu with any group_id fails: KuzuDriver has no attribute _database (issue #1258).\n- MCP add_memory answers queued for an invalid group id and when the model is unreachable; nothing is stored and the error is only in the server log.\n- Every MCP tool error comes back with isError false.\n- Default search returns facts that were already invalidated.\n- Telemetry on adds about one second at exit when offline.\n\nNew in this check:\n- Kuzu on a fresh database never creates its fulltext indexes, so add_episode and search fail with a Binder exception about the missing edge_name_and_fact index, and the process crashed at exit.\n- Embedded FalkorDB Lite as shown in the README loses all data on exit: closing never saves the database file, a shutdown-never-awaited warning appears and exit hangs about 15 seconds.\n- Point-in-time search is wrong on FalkorDB: a valid_at on-or-before filter is ignored by the vector edge search, so default search and MCP valid_at_before return facts that became valid later. Looks like the FalkorDB date comparison problem in issue #1625, fixed only for retrieve_episodes.\n- Date filters with several OR groups reuse parameter names, so later groups overwrite earlier dates ((January range) OR (from March) returned only the March fact). Same pattern in invalid_at, created_at and expired_at.\n- remove_episode has no group_id, so on FalkorDB it cannot find episodes stored under a group (node not found). MCP delete_episode without group_id says not found.\n- Deleting the episode that caused an invalidation removes the new fact but leaves the old one invalidated, so no current fact remains.\n- add_episode_bulk did not resolve contradictions inside one batch: 30 episodes left three current employers for one person, while adding them one by one kept only the latest. The docstring says bulk does invalidation.\n- add_episode_bulk gave every episode, including the earliest, the batch's last three episodes as previous context.\n- The MCP server installed from its lock file gets graphiti-core 0.31.1, not 0.31.2.\n- MCP get_status says ok while the model is unreachable; an unknown source type silently falls back to text; the startup log advertises the /mcp/ endpoint, which redirects to /mcp.\n\nNot reproduced: the FalkorDB Connection closed by server index errors and Task exception was never retrieved (issue #1934) did not appear in any of my runs; probably timing dependent.\n\nWhat works: sequential temporal invalidation, dedupe of restated facts, unicode names, group isolation and group id validation, keyword search date filters, MCP over HTTP and SSE with persistence across restarts, localhost-only default bind, the fixed node_labels injection guard, clear rejection of an invalid reference_time.\n\nRefinement: .env files are loaded at import, but from a script they are searched upward from the installed package folder, not the current folder.",
   "fix": "- Pin the OpenAI SDK below version 3, or install httpx yourself.\n- Avoid Kuzu, or use only the default group on a database whose indexes you create yourself.\n- With embedded FalkorDB Lite, send an explicit save through the client before closing.\n- For point-in-time queries on FalkorDB, filter valid_at in your own code after search, and use one date filter group per query instead of OR groups.\n- Delete episodes through a client cloned to the episode's group (or pass group_id over MCP), and re-add the previous fact yourself if you delete the episode that replaced it.\n- Use add_episode one by one when facts in a batch can contradict each other.\n- Do not trust MCP queued, isError false or get_status ok: check the server log or search after adding.\n- Set GRAPHITI_TELEMETRY_ENABLED=false offline.",

   "task": "LAB RESULT: graphiti (added 2026-10-30). Hands-on test of Graphiti, PyPI package graphiti-core 0.31.2, run offline in a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home folder and no network, using FalkorDB 4.22.1 (bundled in the falkordblite wheel) on loopback and a self-written fake OpenAI-compatible model and embedder. Tried: adding episodes and searching; a three-turn temporal test where a person lives in Paris and then moves to Lisbon; persistence across a process and database restart; edge cases (bad group ids, unsafe node labels, a 210,000-character episode, an empty episode, malformed JSON, duplicate facts, separate groups); the Kuzu backend; and the repo's MCP server (version 1.1.3 from the main branch) over stdio: start, tools list and real add_memory and search_memory_facts calls. What worked: graphiti-core 0.31.2 Python API fully offline with a local fake OpenAI-compatible LLM, embedder and reranker on loopback and a local FalkorDB 4.22.1 (the redis-server and graph module bundled in the falkordblite wheel, bound to 127.0.0.1) after adding httpx: add_episode extracted entities and facts per group_id and set valid_at from the episode reference_time; search returned the right facts first. Multi-turn temporal update across separate processes: turn 1 'Alice lives in Paris', turn 2 another person, turn 3 'Alice moved from Paris to Lisbon' marked the old LIVES_IN Paris edge invalid_at = the turn-3 reference time and expired_at = ingest time, and added the new Lisbon edge with valid_at set. After restarting the Python process and the database server the graph reloaded from disk; search, a direct graph query and retrieve_episodes showed the same edges, timestamps and all 3 episodes. A search filter on invalid_at IS NULL returned only current facts (Lisbon, not Paris). Edge cases: unknown group returns [], empty query returns [], empty episode body is accepted with no nodes or edges, a 210,000-character episode is accepted, malformed JSON in a json episode is stored with nothing extracted, group_ids with spaces, quotes, semicolons or non-ASCII letters are rejected with a clear GroupIdValidationError on both add and search, hyphenated group ids work, unsafe node labels are rejected by SearchFilters validation (advisory GHSA-gg5m-55jj-8m5g fix present), re-adding an identical fact is deduplicated into one edge linked to both episodes, group isolation held, and episode text with prompt-injection wording was stored as plain data (the fake model did not act on it). MCP server (repo main mcp_server, pyproject 1.1.3, MCP SDK 2.3.0) over stdio: (1) started, serverInfo name 'Graphiti Agent Memory' with an empty version string, protocol 2025-06-18; (2) tools/list returned 13 tools (add_memory, search_nodes, search_memory_facts, delete_entity_edge, delete_episode, get_entity_edge, get_episodes, summarize_saga, build_communities, add_triplet, get_episode_entities, clear_graph, get_status); (3) real calls: get_status reported a connection to falkordb; two add_memory calls (Paris, then moved to Lisbon) were queued and processed; search_memory_facts returned 'Alice lives in Lisbon' (current) and 'Alice lives in Paris' with invalid_at/expired_at set; get_episodes listed both episodes; search_nodes with an unsafe entity type was refused. In HTTP mode the server log reported binding to 127.0.0.1:8000 and /health answered on loopback.",

   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "Package: graphiti-core 0.31.2 from PyPI; MCP server from the repo main branch, mcp_server version 1.1.3. A clean install of graphiti-core 0.31.2 fails on import with ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'httpx', because the package imports httpx without declaring it and openai 3.x now depends on httpx2 instead (public issue 1893). The MCP server fails the same way when its dependencies are installed fresh rather than from its lock file. The Kuzu backend is unusable: every add_episode raises AttributeError: 'KuzuDriver' object has no attribute '_database' (public issue 1258). With FalkorDB every run logged 'Error executing FalkorDB query: Connection closed by server' on index creation plus 'Task exception was never retrieved' at close (public issue 1934), with no data lost. The MCP add_memory tool replies 'queued for processing' even for an invalid group_id, then fails only in the server log, so the agent sees success (similar to public issue 1707). MCP tool errors come back with isError false. The MCP server reports an empty version string in its initialize response. Default search returns invalidated facts alongside current ones; after the restart the old Paris fact ranked first. Telemetry (PostHog) is on by default and adds about a one-second timeout at exit when offline. Full breaks: A fresh install fails at import: 'ModuleNotFoundError: No module named httpx' from graphiti_core/llm_client/client.py, because graphiti-core imports httpx without declaring it and the latest openai (3.x) now depends on httpx2 instead (public issue #1893, open PRs #1894/#1895). The same failure stops the MCP server when its dependencies are installed fresh rather than from its uv.lock (which pins openai 2.43.0 and httpx 0.28.1). Workaround: install httpx (or pin openai<3). The Kuzu backend (still documented, marked deprecated) is unusable: every add_episode fails with \"AttributeError: 'KuzuDriver' object has no attribute '_database'\" (public issue #1258, open PR #2064). With FalkorDB, every run printed 'Error executing FalkorDB query: Connection closed by server' for CREATE INDEX statements plus 'Task exception was never retrieved' at close, because each per-group driver clone starts an untracked background index build that is still running when the client closes (public issue #1934). Data was not affected in these runs. MCP add_memory replies 'queued for processing' even for an invalid group_id; processing then fails in the background and the error appears only in the server log, so the agent sees success (same class as public issue #1707). MCP tool errors (e.g. search_nodes validation) come back as an 'error' field with isError false. Rough edges: default search returns invalidated facts alongside current ones (the old Paris fact even ranked first after restart), so agents must check invalid_at or pass a filter; with no reference_time the MCP uses ingest time as valid_at; telemetry is on by default and with network off adds about a 1 s PostHog flush timeout at exit (MCP log shows repeated retries to the PostHog host); dotenv .env files in the working directory are loaded at import.",
   "fix": "Install httpx alongside graphiti-core, or pin openai below version 3. Use FalkorDB or Neo4j rather than Kuzu. To get only current facts, filter search results to edges whose invalid_at is empty. Set the environment variable GRAPHITI_TELEMETRY_ENABLED to false to turn off telemetry. Check the MCP server log after add_memory, since queued failures are not reported to the agent.",
