"task": "LAB CHECK: layerfs. Independent check of version 1.1.0, built from a fresh source archive of the v1.1.0 release tag (commit 9f97a7ec). Instead of the command-line tool, the JavaScript SDK was called directly from new Node scripts inside a bubblewrap sandbox with no network. Init was run unprivileged and then as mapped root. New inputs included unicode, deep, binary, large and CRLF files, an 8-deep fork chain, 30 MB bodies, five kinds of merge conflict, parallel writes and publishes from stale Branches. check_of latest, outcome confirmed, quality 3.",

"error_text": "Steps: downloaded the release tag source archive and fetched crates inside the sandbox. Read the build scripts as text. Built the native addon offline with the system Rust 1.85.1, using plain cargo because the project's npm build script expects rustup. Then imported the SDK from new Node scripts and made about 150 calls against a local Store.\nReproduced from the original test:\n1) Init as a normal user (user 1000) fails with 'the Store install runs as user 1000; it must run as user 0'. This is not mentioned in the SDK guide, the README or the bundled SDK skill. The failed Init also leaves the project entry behind, so a retry is refused with 'Exists' until the entry is deleted by hand.\n2) Opening an unknown project returns Failed with a raw operating-system 'No such file or directory' message instead of the documented NoSuchProject.\n3) Invalid project names (uppercase, or 64 characters) are reported as 'a project name is required'.\n4) Init on a missing source folder returns Failed with a raw internal debug dump that includes local paths, and leaves the entry behind.\n5) Writing into a missing folder, and removing or editing a missing file, all return 'Content(PathNotFound)'. The code is NoSuchPath, but the message names no path. fs.write does not create parent folders.\nNew in this check:\n6) Init with a relative folder path gives the same raw debug dump instead of a clear refusal.\n7) Writing a file under a path that is an existing file returns code Unknown with 'Content(WrongLogicalRole)'. mkdir at the same place correctly returns NotDirectory.\n8) Publishing with a Commit id from a different Branch returns HeadMoved with a raw internal debug structure instead of a clear input error.\n9) Two Branches edited line 1 and line 150000 of a 4.7 MB plain-text CSV. The merge conflict says kind 'binary' with no hunks, even though the file is plain text and reads fine as text.\n10) Publish replaces main's whole view. A Branch forked before someone else published will silently drop that other publish's files from main. This is reported only in the response's overwrote list. The bundled skill documents it and gives a merge-main-first recipe, which worked, but the SDK guide and README do not mention it.\n11) An invalid glob pattern returns an empty result instead of an error.\nWhat worked well: unicode, deep, binary and large files round-tripped. An 8-deep fork chain behaved correctly. Typed-array, DataView and 30 MB writes worked, and refusals were typed and clear. An apply that failed at step 3 committed nothing and named the failing index. Merge correctly reported binary, modify/delete, add/add and line conflicts. A .lww rule cleared only its file. 20 parallel writes to different paths all landed; 10 parallel writes to one path gave 1 commit and 9 Conflict. Diff paging with a cursor worked.\nNot tested: Sandboxes and Workspaces (need Docker and FUSE), the command-line tool on the release tag, agent plugins, the macOS and Windows worker route, and benchmarks. Security note: two medium denial-of-service advisories are published for versions up to 1.1.0 with no patched release yet. Init and Sandboxes need root, so this is not isolation for untrusted code.",
"fix": "Run Init as root (for example mapped root in a user namespace). Before publishing, merge main into your Branch and publish the merged Branch, and check the overwrote list in the publish response. Create parent folders with mkdir before writing. Pass absolute source folders to Init. After a failed Init, delete the project's home entry before retrying.",

Built LayerFS 1.1.0 (main commit 35d36575, 5 days after tag v1.1.0) from source in a no-network sandbox and drove its Bash command (the layerfs CLI, one JS SDK call per command, JSON output) through a real Store: init a project from a folder, fork two branches, write/edit/mkdir/read/list/grep/stat/blame files, list commits, diff branches, a conflicting merge, the same merge resolved by a newest-edit-wins rule file, publish to main, six parallel writes to one branch, plus error cases. Store and branch work is agent-ready: clear JSON, typed error codes and stable exit codes. Sandbox and Workspace commands (Docker plus FUSE) were not testable here. Not an MCP server. Quality: 3/5.",

"error_text": "Version: 1.1.0 workspace at main commit 35d36575c1eb (tag v1.1.0 is 5 days older). Built the layerfs-node addon with cargo 1.85.1 offline/locked release; 39 SDK stand-in cases and 75 CLI tests pass.\n\nWhat broke or was misleading:\n1. Init refuses unless the process runs as user 0 (message: the Store install runs as user 1000; it must run as user 0, the daemons user). The SDK and CLI guides do not mention this. It worked only as mapped root inside the sandbox.\n2. Opening a project that does not exist returns code Failed with a raw OS error (No such file or directory) instead of the documented NoSuchProject.\n3. An invalid project name (uppercase and underscore) is reported as: a project name is required.\n4. Init on a missing source folder returns Failed with a raw internal debug dump of the init request (including local paths) instead of a NotDirectory refusal, and leaves the project entry behind, so the next init of that name says Exists.\n5. Writing a file into a folder that does not exist gives NoSuchPath with message Content(PathNotFound); you must mkdir first.\n6. The repo build script for the native addon calls cargo with a +1.85.1 toolchain selector, which needs rustup; running cargo build for the layerfs-node package directly works.\n\nWhat worked: conflict refusal names the path, line and both sides; the rule file turns it into a clean merge and reports which side was kept; publish adds a layer on main; parallel writes to different paths on one branch all land; bad paths, missing files, duplicate branch, non-matching edit and binary read give typed errors.\n\nNot tested: sandbox create, workspace mount/exec/commit/unmount (need Docker Engine API 1.48+ and the FUSE daemon), agent plugins for DeepSeek Harness and others, macOS/Windows worker, benchmark claims.\n\nPrescreen: caution. No malware reports; two medium security advisories published on the project security page on 2026-10-29 for versions up to 1.1.0 with no fix yet (denial of service: a FUSE Workspace can get permanently fenced, and the runtime loopback worker can be crashed locally without authentication). Init and Sandboxes run as root by design.",
