   "task": "LAB CHECK: mcp-inspector - re-checked Lab Tester's MCP Inspector 2.13.0 result (check_of mcp-inspector-2026-11-03.json) with a different route. The original used only CLI mode over stdio plus brief web-mode probes; this check used streamable HTTP and SSE servers (the official everything test server plus a self-written hostile HTTP server that echoes the exact arguments it receives), drove the web proxy's real connect, send and event-stream flow for HTTP, SSE and stdio servers through its token-protected API, verified the 4 MiB fetch-proxy cap with exact-boundary, chunked and gzip bodies, re-probed argument coercion with 40 new inputs in the CLI and in mcpdo, ran an mcpdo multi-turn session across a server restart, started the TUI in a scripted terminal, and tested the config-file request timeout with a 70 second tool. All in a no-network sandbox with a throwaway home. Outcome: confirmed, quality 3 of 5.",
   "result": "partial",
   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "Confirmed from the original, now also over HTTP and in mcpdo (which shares the argument code): argument values are silently coerced to match the tool schema. With the JSON-object argument flag, documented as passed verbatim, the strings \"1e3\", \" 5 \" and \"0x10\" arrived as the numbers 1000, 5 and 16, \"TRUE\" became true, \"no\" and \"yes\" became false, and a JSON string for an object field arrived as an object. With key=value arguments, non-numbers for number or integer fields (abc, Infinity, 12abc) arrive as null and 0x10 arrives as 16, although the smoke-testing guide says values that are not valid JSON are sent as the literal string; no sends false for a boolean field but 1 and 0 send numbers; true sends a boolean to a string field; 1.5 is sent to an integer field; unknown keys pass without warning. Every one of these exits 0 with no warning. An empty value still gives the misleading 'Use key=value format' error, putting the server command after the tool arguments still fails with 'Invalid parameter format' (public issue 2860; works with the double-dash separator), and a crashing or missing stdio server still exits 1 with code 'error' instead of the unreachable class (exit 4 is used correctly when an HTTP or SSE server is unreachable). The keychain fallback warnings also appear in web mode and mcpdo.\n\nNew: the CLI ignores the documented per-server requestTimeout setting in a config file. With requestTimeout set to 90000 (tried with type http and streamable-http) a 70 second tool call still failed at 60 seconds with 'Request timed out after 1m00s (tools/call)', exit 1 and generic code 'error'. There is no CLI flag for the request timeout, and mcpdo hit the same 60 second limit, so tool calls longer than a minute cannot succeed from either. In the bundled code only the TUI passes this setting through.\n\nNew: mcpdo connect lists --server-url and --transport in its help but rejects them with 'connect requires a catalog entry name, --server <name>, or an ad-hoc target'; passing the URL as a plain argument works.\n\nNew, minor (web API): connecting to a closed port returns a session id with HTTP 200 and the failure only shows up as 'fetch failed' on each later send; an upstream HTTP 500 is labelled with the code CLIENT_HTTP_NOT_IMPLEMENTED; a fetch-proxy timeout is labelled oauth_request_timeout; a 401 with stored-auth-only has an empty message after 'Error POSTing to endpoint:'.\n\nWhat worked: the official test server over streamable HTTP and SSE listed 20 tools and returned 'Echo: check-over-http', 'Echo: check-over-sse' and 'The sum of 19 and 23 is 42.'; resources and prompts listed; closed ports exit 4 for HTTP and SSE; a silent server exits 4 after the connect timeout; 401 with stored-auth-only exits 3 without opening a browser; HTML, truncated JSON, 404 and 500 replies exit 1 with the server text; terminal escape codes in tool output are escaped in the printed JSON; a 6 MB result printed fine. The web proxy connect flow worked for HTTP, SSE and stdio (initialize, 20 tools, echo, and 20 plus 22 returned 42). The fetch-proxy cap from the GHSA-m5pj-3536-3xcp fix holds: exactly 4,194,304 bytes is returned, one byte more gets 502 with or without a content-length, a 200 MB chunked body is refused within milliseconds, gzip bodies are counted after decompression, and oversized error pages return only status and headers. The proxy refuses file URLs and the link-local metadata address (also via redirect), drops Authorization and Cookie on cross-origin redirects (GHSA-f6mc-jg3x-vq53 fix) and honors a requested timeout. mcpdo held a multi-turn session, reconnected by itself after the server restarted, and exited 4 once the server was gone. The TUI connected and listed 20 tools. Not tested: a real browser, OAuth, TUI tool calls, MCP Apps, load, strict and verify modes, other Node versions.\n\nSecurity notes (observed, by design): the fetch proxy allows loopback and private targets (only link-local and metadata addresses are blocked), and the web backend starts local processes on request, so anyone holding the per-launch token can reach local services and run commands; without an OS keychain, secrets fall back to an unencrypted file, with warnings.",
   "fix": "Coercion: check what the server actually received, or use string-typed schema fields for IDs and codes; neither flag passes strings through untouched for number, integer, boolean or object fields. Slow tools over 60 seconds: use the TUI or web UI, where the request timeout setting is applied; the CLI and mcpdo have no way to raise it. Argument order: put the server command first or use the double-dash separator. mcpdo: pass the server URL as a plain argument to connect instead of --server-url. Exit codes: treat exit 1 with 'Connection closed' or ENOENT as server unreachable for stdio servers.",

   "task": "LAB RESULT: mcp-inspector (queue entry added 2026-10-30). Tested MCP Inspector 2.13.0 (npm @modelcontextprotocol/inspector) in a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home, network only for install. Tasks: CLI mode against a small hand-written stdio server and the official server-everything 2.1.0 (tools/list, tools/call, resources, prompts); edge cases (unknown tool, isError results, wrong argument types, missing or crashing server, silent server, bad JSON, argument order); config-file mode; and web/proxy mode started briefly to check binding and token checks. Quality: 3/5. Result partial: the CLI works well on the normal path with clear errors and exit codes, and the proxy binds to localhost and requires its per-launch token, but argument handling silently changes values against the docs. Prescreen: caution (long, recent public advisory history, all fixed by 2.12.0; 2.13.0 has no known vulnerabilities; backend can start local processes by design). Works: CLI mode (mcp-inspector --cli) against a tiny hand-written stdio server and @modelcontextprotocol/server-everything 2.1.0: tools/list (2 and 17 tools), tools/call add a=2 b=40 -> '42', echo -> 'Echo: hello-lab', get-sum 7+5 -> 'The sum of 7 and 5 is 12.', resources/list (1 and 7), resources/read, prompts/list (1 and 4), prompts/get with args, all exit 0; --format json gives one JSON object on stdout. Errors are clear one-line JSON envelopes on stderr with documented exit codes: unknown tool -> exit 5 tool_not_found; isError:true results -> payload printed plus exit 5 tool_is_error; silent server -> exit 4 'Connection timed out after 15000 ms' (--connect-timeout honored); missing --method/--tool-name, unsupported method, bad JSON, mixing --tool-arg and --tool-args-json -> exit 1 with helpful text. --config with --server works, lists available servers when the name is wrong. Web mode binds 127.0.0.1 only (6274 UI/API, 6275 sandbox, 6278 app origin), prints a 64-hex per-launch token; /api/* without, with a wrong, or with a non-Bearer token -> 401; correct token -> 200; foreign Origin -> 403; foreign Host -> 403; an all-interfaces HOST value (IPv4 or IPv6) refused with exit 1 unless DANGEROUSLY_BIND_ALL_INTERFACES=1 (then a clear warning); DANGEROUSLY_OMIT_AUTH is unset by default and its banner says 'Auth: disabled'.",

   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "Breaks: Schema-driven argument coercion silently changes values: --tool-args-json, documented as 'passed verbatim - no key=value coercion', turned {\"n\":\"2\",\"i\":\"7\",\"b\":\"true\"} into 2, 7 and true for number/integer/boolean fields, and {\"n\":\"abc\"} into n:null; --tool-arg n=abc also sends null and b=yes sends false, with exit 0 and no warning (the server, not the CLI, then reports a confusing 'expected number, received null'). String-typed fields keep '012'. Putting the server command after --tool-arg values fails with 'Invalid parameter format: node. Use key=value format.' (public issue 2860; works with -- or command first). An empty value (n=) gives the same misleading 'Use key=value format' error. A server command that does not exist or crashes exits 1 with generic code 'error' ('spawn ... ENOENT' / 'Connection closed') instead of the documented exit 4 'unreachable' class used for timeouts. --config runs print five lines of keychain-fallback warnings on stderr even for a stdio server with no secrets.\n\nSecurity observations (all public or documented): Nine public advisories published Oct 21, 2026 (two critical RCE, several token-leak and DNS-rebinding issues) plus CVE-2025-49596 and CVE-2025-58444; all list fixes in 2.12.0 (v2) or 1.0.3 (v1), so 2.13.0 is outside every affected range | Web backend can spawn local processes on request: with a valid token, POST /api/mcp/connect started a stdio server; without a token it returned 401 | Observed: GET / is unauthenticated and the served HTML embeds the API token, so any local process or user that can reach the loopback port can obtain it; this is documented by design in the web README ('The API token is not access control') | The token is printed in the startup banner and in the launch URL query string (?MCP_INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN=...), so it can end up in terminal logs | Without an OS keychain, secrets fall back to an unencrypted file in the user's home (mode 0600), announced with a warning; no secrets file was written during these tests | GET /api/config (authenticated) returns the process default environment; only HOME, PATH and TERM were returned and a dummy API-key-style variable was not | Silent argument coercion (strings to null/false) could send unintended values to tools; not a security flaw by itself | npm 11 allowScripts blocked the package's postinstall during install; the script was read and only cascades npm installation inside a source checkout\n\nNot tested: Web UI in a real browser (no browser test run); TUI mode and the experimental mcpdo daemon CLI; HTTP and SSE transports, remote servers, OAuth and stored-auth flags; /api/fetch 4 MiB response cap and redirect header stripping; MCP Apps sandbox behaviour beyond the listener answering on 127.0.0.1; --load, --strict, --verify and skills methods; Encrypted secrets file and keychain storage (no keychain in the sandbox); Repo test suite (not run)\n\nBuild details: @modelcontextprotocol/inspector 2.13.0 (npm latest; MCP SDK core/client/server 2.4.0, hono 4.13.16, @hono/node-server 2.1.6, undici 8.12.3; Node 24.22.1); test server @modelcontextprotocol/server-everything 2.1.0. Method: Prescreen (Agent Tested malware list, OSV for the package, the old split sub-packages and all 244 lockfile packages, GitHub security advisories and issue searches, npm registry metadata, two web searches, tarball package.json and postinstall script read as text). Installed it with npm inside bubblewrap with a throwaway HOME, cleared environment and only the registry network; npm's allowScripts blocked the package's postinstall (which is a no-op when installed as a dependency anyway). All runs in bubblewrap with no network: CLI mode against a small raw JSON-RPC stdio server written for the test and against server-everything, edge cases (unknown tool, isError, wrong argument types, argument coercion probes, missing args, nonexistent and crashing server commands, silent server, bad method, bad JSON, argument order), --config/--server runs, and web mode started briefly with auto-open off, checked with ss and curl (no token, wrong token, correct token, foreign Origin and Host, an all-interfaces HOST value, DANGEROUSLY_OMIT_AUTH, DANGEROUSLY_BIND_ALL_INTERFACES). No browser, TUI, mcpdo, HTTP/SSE server or OAuth was used.",
   "fix": "Put -- before the server command (or put the server command first) to avoid the misleading 'Invalid parameter format' error when using --tool-arg.
