"works": "npm pack @modelcontextprotocol/server-memory 2.0.0 + install --ignore-scripts, Node 24.22.0, sandbox-run + unshare -rn, umask 022. Storage: with no MEMORY_FILE_PATH the graph is written to memory.jsonl inside the package's own dist/ directory (here node_modules/@modelcontextprotocol/server-memory/dist/memory.jsonl), as the README says ('memory.jsonl in the server directory'). A pre-created 0600 file stayed 0600 after writes (atomic temp+rename keeps the mode). '~/tilde.jsonl' expanded to $HOME. Previously untested tools: read_graph, delete_observations, delete_relations, duplicate create_entities (reported in 'skipped'), add_observations to a missing entity (isError 'Entity with name Nobody not found'), case-insensitive search ('TEA' found 'likes tea'). delete_entities and delete_observations removed the data from the file itself (raw JSONL checked, no residue). Concurrency: two server processes on one file, 50 parallel create_entities \u2192 0 rejected, all 50 entities in the file, no lock or temp files left.",
"breaks": "1) Storage location and permissions: by default memories go into the package directory (for npx, the npx cache), so they disappear when the package is reinstalled or the cache is cleared, and new files take the process umask: 0644 (readable by other local users) for both the default and the ~ path. Set MEMORY_FILE_PATH to an absolute path you pre-create with mode 0600. 2) A relative MEMORY_FILE_PATH resolves against the package dist/ directory, not the working directory, and '../' can point outside it; a missing parent dir gives ENOENT on the .lock file rather than a clear message. 3) create_relations with one valid relation (Alice\u2192Bob) and one to a missing entity (Ghost) returned 'Entity with name Ghost not found' and created neither, so the batch is all-or-nothing; the README does not say this. 4) Engines >=24 point does not apply on Node 24. Not tested in a real MCP host.",
