   "task": "LAB CHECK: open-design-agent-kit. I re-tested Lab Tester's result with a different method: the published npm packages 0.4.0-beta.1 (next) and 0.3.0 (latest) instead of a source build of main, and the official MCP Python SDK client instead of a hand-written JSON-RPC client. Everything ran offline in a sandbox. I used new inputs (other examples and design systems, Unicode names, absolute paths, symbolic links, odd offsets and wrong types, a restart) and ran CLI init with different tool choices. Check of open-design-agent-kit-2026-11-03.json. Outcome: confirmed. Quality 3/5 (partial).",

   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "What works: on 0.4.0-beta.1 the stdio MCP server starts as open-design 0.4.0-beta.1 with 36 tools (34 on 0.3.0), 206 prompts and one UI resource. The catalog has 488 skill entries and 198 design systems. Setting the active design system to cohere persisted across a restart. Two examples the original test didn't use were remixed into the workspace with manifests, and register and read-back worked with Unicode titles and folder names. A QR code with a Unicode URL was written, and a 23 KB keynote brief was prepared. The source reader refused outside paths and links. CLI init for Claude Code only and for Codex only each wrote 41 skills and the right MCP config, a repeat run was idempotent, and unknown or missing tool choices failed with clear messages. The npm builds pin their own published version in the configs, so the unpublished-version problem only affects source builds. No account or key was needed.\n\nWhat broke (confirmed): 1) Arguments aren't checked against the schema. Remix without a skill id still fails with the raw message Cannot read properties of undefined (reading trim). Numeric ids fail with id.trim is not a function or designSystemId.trim is not a function. String, fractional and negative offsets and a zero limit are silently coerced, and an unknown mode returns an empty list. 2) Error flags are inconsistent. Unknown ids, outside-workspace refusals, a missing entry file and range errors are normal results, while type errors and the artifact reader's absolute-path refusal are flagged as errors. 3) README counts are wrong: it says 24 tools and 163 skills. 4) The vendored catalog is the same in both versions: 13 skill names differ from their folders, and 330 of 349 reference, asset or script files named in bundled skills aren't shipped.\n\nNew: 5) Workspace confinement doesn't account for symbolic links. The artifact reader could return a file outside the workspace, and the register and QR code tools wrote files outside it. Direct outside paths are refused, and the source reader handles links correctly. 6) CLI init with an empty tool list exits successfully without writing anything, an init target folder that doesn't exist is created silently, and there is no version flag.\n\nNot tested: browser-based check, export and adapt (no Chromium); publishing, Canva, Figma and shop tools; preview server; real host apps.",
   "fix": "Use the published npm builds (their configs pin a version that exists) rather than a source build. Always pass required arguments as strings. Don't open untrusted workspaces that contain symbolic links until confinement resolves links. Treat skill steps that name reference files as unavailable.",

   "task": "LAB RESULT: open-design-agent-kit (queue entry added 2026-11-01). Sandboxed hands-on test of open-design-agent-kit, a set of design skills plus an MCP server for coding agents. Built from source (git main) inside a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home; installed its dependencies with the package manager with install scripts turned off, then built the MCP server and CLI packages offline. All tests ran with networking off. Tasks: (1) start the MCP server over stdio with a minimal JSON-RPC client, check initialize and tools/list; (2) real tool calls: list skills and design systems, set an active design system, remix the landing-deck example into a workspace, register and get the manifest, write a QR SVG, prepare a design brief; (3) edge cases: missing and wrongly typed arguments, unknown ids, path escapes with ../; (4) run the CLI init for all tools and validate every installed skill's frontmatter; (5) run the repo's MCP server unit tests. Prescreen clean.",

   "error_text": "Version tested: 0.4.0-beta.2 as reported by the server, built from git main commit 6217f27f (48 commits after tag v0.4.0-beta.2). This version is not published on npm (latest is 0.3.0, next is 0.4.0-beta.1).\n\nWorked: initialize reports open-design 0.4.0-beta.2. tools/list returns 39 tools (44 when the client declares the MCP Apps UI extension); 208 prompts and 1 UI resource, and resources/read returned about 384 KB of HTML. Listing skills (499 entries, paged) and design systems (198) worked; set_active_design_system saved the setting; remixing the landing-deck example copied a 40 KB HTML deck and manifest into the workspace; register and get round-tripped the manifest; the QR tool wrote an SVG; prepare_open_design_brief returned a 45 KB brief including the design system. Path escapes with ../ were refused by get, register and read-source. Unknown skill or design system ids return a list of valid ids. CLI init for all tools wrote 43 Claude Code skills, 43 Codex skills and both MCP configs; all 86 installed skills parse with names matching folders. Repo unit tests: 140 passing, 13 pending. In stdio mode no listening socket is opened; the preview server is documented to bind to loopback only. No account requested, no telemetry code found.\n\nBroke:\n1. No argument validation: calling remix_open_design_example without skillId returns \"Tool remix_open_design_example failed: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'trim')\". list_open_design_skills with offset \"abc\" is silently treated as 0.\n2. Inconsistent error flagging: unknown ids, \"Source is outside the workspace\" and register's \"entryPath escapes the workspace\" come back as normal (non-error) results, while get flags the same escape as an error.\n3. Source builds are broken out of the box: init writes MCP configs pinned to version 0.4.0-beta.2 of the two npm packages, and npm returns 404 for both.\n4. Misleading docs: the MCP server readme says 24 tools (actual 39 or 44) and claims 163 skills, 152 design systems and 167 examples; the server reports 499 catalog entries, 198 design systems and 193 remixable examples.\n5. Bundled catalog problems: some skill titles don't match their content (od:deck:guizang-ppt is titled as a brand-to-revenue story but is a magazine-style slide skill); 13 bundled skill names differ from their folder names; 455 references and assets files named in skill bodies are not shipped (for example guizang-ppt says to copy a template HTML asset that isn't there), so those steps can't be followed.\n\nNot tested: check, export and adapt (need Chromium or ffmpeg); publish, Canva, Figma, print shop and site audit (need network, accounts or tokens); the preview server; job runs; the VS Code extension; the plugin inside a real host app; the published npm builds; online network behaviour.",
   "fix": "For a source build, change the version pinned in the generated MCP configs to 0.4.0-beta.1 or 0.3.0, or point the config at the locally built server. Always pass skillId to remix_open_design_example.",
