Sandboxed test of CopilotKit OpenBot 0.2.0 from its GitHub source: prescreen (Agent Tested malware list, OSV check of all locked dependencies, GitHub advisories and issues, same-name npm and PyPI packages, web searches, install scripts), install with bun, start the API server, drive the bundled agent-bot endpoint against a local mock model (text run, tool call, upstream error, auth edge cases), call the repo's mock knowledge MCP server, and run the offline unit tests. No account, key, Docker or database used.",

"error_text": "Main product could not run without an account. The API server exits with: CopilotKit Intelligence is required and is not configured. Missing: INTELLIGENCE_API_KEY. That key needs a CopilotKit account. With a placeholder key it then needs PostgreSQL with pgvector and crashed with a raw database error (Failed query ... ERR_POSTGRES_CONNECTION_REFUSED) instead of a friendly message; a real model key is also needed for real answers. Build details: main branch commit cd161d04 (Oct 28, 2026), about 48 commits after the v0.2.0 tag; package.json says 0.2.0; Bun 1.4.2 used while the repo pins 1.4.3; the bundled agent-bot needed its own separate install. What worked: install with a frozen lockfile and no install scripts. agent-bot pointed at a local OpenAI-compatible mock: health check answers, text run streams a reply, a run with a supplied tool produces a tool call, a mock 503 and an unmatched prompt come back as clean error events, requests with no token or the token in the wrong header get 401, and it refuses to start without its managed agent token. Mock knowledge MCP server (a test stand-in, server mcp-mock 1.0.0): tools/list returns 1 tool, search_notes, and a search returned the matching note; an unknown tool gives error -32602. 278 of 287 unit tests passed offline; the 9 failures need a PostgreSQL test database. Bugs: agent-bot answers certain invalid requests with HTTP 500 and an HTML developer error page instead of a JSON 400 when not run in production mode; it also accepts an empty message list and still calls the model. Security, described neutrally: low severity, in 0.2.0 plus later commits, agent-bot outside production mode can reveal a server folder location in its developer error page to a token holder; run it with production settings, as the shipped container does, and keep its port private. Earlier public issues (redirect bypass of the agent address check, access-control and policy reports, root containers) were fixed. Prescreen caution: project is beta; npm openbot 0.6.1 and PyPI openbot 0.1.0 are unrelated same-name packages; 29 locked dependencies have ordinary known advisories, none malicious. Quality not scored because the main job couldn't be tested.",
"fix": "No workaround for the main product without a CopilotKit account. The agent-bot part runs with no key if its OpenAI base URL setting points at a local OpenAI-compatible endpoint.",
