   "task": "LAB RESULT: poisson-prove (added 2026-10-30). Installed Poisson Prove 0.1.0 from PyPI inside an offline sandbox with a throwaway home and ran: (1) the documented quickstart (init --example, sweep, patched sweep paired on the same seeds, diff, report, runs, inspect, ui, check, serve); (2) a small tool-using agent rollout built on the OpenAI client talking to a local fake OpenAI-compatible model (no real key), with clean runs and fault-injection runs; (3) edge cases: rollouts that crash, return undeclared outcomes or the wrong type, try an outbound connection, plus broken or missing spec files, unknown fault names, too few replicates and self-comparison. Prescreen clean. Quality 3: the quickstart matches the docs and the statistics output is careful, but several comparison and fault-injection cases give misleading passes.",
   "result": "partial",
   "blocker_type": "bug",
   "error_text": "Package: poisson-prove 0.1.0 pure-Python wheel from PyPI, with the agent extra (OpenAI client 2.54.0, OpenTelemetry SDK 1.45.2), Python 3.13, Linux. Newer 0.1.1 and 0.1.2 exist; their changelogs list only Burla and ui changes.\n\nWhat worked: the quickstart gave the documented 'trade' verdict; report wrote report.md, heatmap.svg and receipt.html; the plan refused a 60-replicate design and named the replicates needed (exit 1); check exited 0 on pass and 4 on a real regression (tool_error_single fault fired on 85 of 160 episodes, diff said 'worse'); clear errors for unknown fault, missing module or function, invalid TOML, missing spec, zero replicates; serve bound to loopback only; a dummy key in the environment never showed up in the store or logs.\n\nWhat broke:\n1. Self-comparison is not refused. diff of a run against itself says 'no significant change' and check against itself says 'passed' with exit 0. diff with a named run and 'latest' silently compares the run with itself when the newer run is partial, because latest means the newest complete run.\n2. Crashes are hidden from the gate. A patched rollout that raised an exception in 41 of 160 episodes, compared with a clean run, got 'no significant change', and check on the completed event with fail-on lower passed (exit 0). diff prints one 'errors' warning line; check does not fail.\n3. Undeclared outcomes are accepted. A run where every episode returned an outcome not in the declared outcomes list finished with exit 0, and diff against a failing run called it 'safer'.\n4. Fault injection with no position markers in the rollout is a silent no-op. The faulted run recorded tool_corrupt_single at rate 0.5 in its manifest but injected nothing, and diff reported 'no significant change' with no warning.\n5. The corrupt faults cannot always apply. llm_corrupt_single (wrong-encoding garbling) leaves plain ASCII replies unchanged, and tool_corrupt_single leaves integer-only tool arguments unchanged. When that happens the whole sweep stops with 'error: an unexpected failure inside poisson-prove (ChaosError)', exit 3, and an empty partial run is left in the store. The fault-injection docs say a mutation that changes nothing fails the episode, not the sweep.\n6. The paired follow-up sweep needs one more replicate than the first (160 vs 161 at the default threshold), so the documented flow is refused unless the threshold or replicates are changed (already a public issue, number 6).\n7. Docs index page still says the package is not on PyPI yet and shows a sweep of quickstart.toml (not in the working folder) and a bare pair-with flag (needs an argument); both fail.\nMinor: run names use the UTC date (a 5 PM Pacific run on Nov 3 is named Nov 4).\n\nNot tested: Modal and Burla backends (need cloud accounts), OpenTelemetry capture, the paired verb, the terminal app, the coding-agent setup, versions 0.1.1 and 0.1.2.\n\nObservations (nothing found that is a hidden flaw): Prove trusts the outcome label your rollout returns and does not check agent claims such as a fake 'all tests passed' (by design); serve does not check the Host header but is loopback-only and read-only; the errors log keeps full tracebacks with install paths; dependencies are unpinned lower bounds with no known advisories.",
   "fix": "Wrap every model call you want faulted in the chaos position() context manager and limit the fault to steps whose responses it can change (for example use tool_error_single or llm_error_single instead of the corrupt faults on plain-ASCII text or integer arguments). Name both runs explicitly in diff and check instead of relying on latest/previous, and make sure they differ. Gate CI on errored episodes separately (for example fail when the sweep summary shows episodes with no outcome), and make the rollout map exceptions to a declared failure outcome. For the paired sweep, pass one more replicate than suggested to the first sweep or pass a slightly higher max-mde to the second.",
