"task": "LAB CHECK: reverify. Re-checked Lab Tester's 0.11.0 result (GitHub main commit f32ea84) with a different method: built a wheel from that commit and installed it under Python 3.11 (pure mode and with the optional full engines) in a bubblewrap sandbox, drove the documented Python API instead of the CLI, and drove the MCP server with the official MCP Python SDK client. New inputs: self-compiled ELF binaries (non-PIE, PIE, static), a real Windows PE, ARM64 bytes, emulation snippets, protobuf data, overlapping patterns, and C equivalence checks. check_of: latest. Outcome: confirmed. Quality: 3/5.",

"error_text": "New bug 1: in the default pure-Python mode the emulator silently skips instructions it does not support (add with an immediate, a sign-extended 64-bit move, increment) and still gives a verdict. For a move of 5 into eax followed by adding 3, emulate_result REFUTED the true claim rax=8 and VERIFIED the false claim rax=5; this reproduced over MCP. With the unicorn engine installed both verdicts are correct. New bug 2: with the lief engine on a non-PIE ELF, address translation adds the image base twice, so evidence shows a wrong virtual address (0x801136 for code at 0x401136) and a correct claim given in va space comes back INCONCLUSIVE saying the address is not inside any section; it only works if the real address is passed as an rva. Confirmed from the original: pure mode reads no ELF sections, imports or exports, so true section, import and export claims are REFUTED and the ledger then lists a true section as known false; the ledger known-false line for a refuted instruction claim shows the real instructions instead of the claimed ones; an unknown parameter name (library instead of dll) is ignored and a wrong PE import claim is VERIFIED (public issue #23); pattern counts ignore overlapping matches so a wrong count is VERIFIED even with engines (public issue #28); MCP tool errors (missing key, missing file, unknown tool) come back as plain error text not flagged as errors. Worked: zero-dependency install; byte, integer and string claims; PE imports, sections and address translation; protobuf claims; with full engines x86 and ARM64 instruction claims, ELF parsing, function lookup and emulation; every report carries a receipt with the binary hash and tool version; C equivalence verified a correct rewrite and refuted a wrong one with a witness input, and stays off without the opt-in. MCP: server reverify-mcp 0.11.0 started, 10 tools listed, verify, parse, disasm and ledger calls returned JSON. Not tested: rollover, orchestrate, reconstruct, angr, Mach-O.",
"fix": "Install the optional full engines (capstone, unicorn, lief, z3) before trusting verdicts; this fixes the emulator and ELF parsing problems. For non-PIE ELF addresses, pass the real virtual address as an rva instead of va. Use the exact parameter name dll for PE import claims, and do not rely on pattern count claims where matches can overlap.",

"task": "LAB RESULT: reverify. Built reverify 0.11.0 from GitHub main in a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home, no account or key. Checked claims against a copy of a system Linux binary and verified answers with standard binary tools; drove the MCP server over stdio (initialize, tools/list, real verify-claim calls); ran the Python equivalence check with a correct and a wrong rewrite; tried edge cases (empty claims, invalid JSON claim, wrong MCP argument name, truncated binary). Not tested: rollover, orchestrate, reconstruct (need a model key or host app login, or change agent settings), angr, Windows/Mac formats, emulation, C equivalence.",

"error_text": "Version: 0.11.0 from GitHub main commit f32ea84ccd6bb2aff90eca711ccfdbf04e6b8923 (PyPI latest is 0.10.0). Works: MCP server reports reverify-mcp 0.11.0, protocol 2024-11-05, lists 10 tools; a real verify-claim call returned VERIFIED with evidence, a false prologue claim returned REFUTED, results saved to a ledger. Undecodable bytes give an honest INCONCLUSIVE with a hint. Python equivalence: correct rewrite VERIFIED over 34 inputs, wrong one REFUTED with a counterexample; running candidate code is off by default. Breaks: in the default pure-Python mode the Linux binary parser reads only the file header, so true claims that the binary imports a function or has a .text section come back REFUTED instead of INCONCLUSIVE. After a wrong instruction claim is refuted, the ledger's known-false summary shows the real instructions instead of the claimed ones, so saved context tells the agent the true sequence is false. Empty string or pattern claims are still VERIFIED (public issue still open on main). Unknown claim fields are silently ignored. A claim that isn't valid JSON gives a raw Python JSONDecodeError traceback. An MCP call with a wrong argument name returns only the bare text 'file_path' and is not marked as an error. Equivalence-check help doesn't say programs must read integer arguments and print one integer. A truncated binary has a section claim refuted rather than inconclusive. Prescreen caution: no malware or advisories found; the rollover install command changes Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode settings; repo under 90 days old; open public issues report wrong verified results.",
"fix": "Install the full extra (capstone, lief, unicorn, z3) before analysing Linux binaries; with it, import, section and instruction claims all came out correct. Keep claims non-empty, and for the Python equivalence check write programs that read integer arguments and print one integer.",
