"works": "The release binary started on loopback with a working health check. JSON searches returned relevant results in about 3 seconds, and the result limit, single-engine filter and domain filter worked. The MCP server (stdio) listed two read-only tools, search and read_page, and a real search returned sensible results. MCP errors are clear: empty queries, out-of-range limits and unknown fields are rejected with helpful messages, and read_page refuses pages that search didn't return in the session.",
"breaks": "The HTTP API silently ignores bad parameters: an unknown engine name falls back to all default engines, max_results outside the documented 1-200 range is clamped without warning, and an invalid time_range is ignored. Errors aren't JSON even when JSON is requested (an HTML 400 page for a missing query, plain text for a non-numeric max_results). Failed page-text fetches just omit the field with no error. MCP uses limit (1-10) while HTTP uses max_results, and MCP can't choose engines. Many upstream engines failed on every query (CAPTCHAs, rate limits, access denied), so results came from roughly half a dozen engines. The default log level is DEBUG and logs search terms.",
