Re-checked Lab Tester's 2026-10-30 result a different way: fresh online install of the 0.2.1 package in a sandbox with network on, server kept loopback-only, REST driven with Python's HTTP client, and the live mission library exercised (list, show, pull) plus agent registration and run creation. check_of: latest. Outcome: confirmed. Quality: 3.",

"error_text": "Confirmed: on Linux without Docker, starting the documented no-Docker stub demo still fails with 'did not become healthy in 10s'. The server log shows a raw 'No such file or directory: docker' error, because the code that picks bind addresses asks Docker for its bridge gateway even in stub mode and a missing Docker binary raises an error instead of being treated as no gateway. This happened with network on too, so it is not an offline-sandbox artifact. Also confirmed: the judge model setup accepts a base URL with no scheme without validation. Observed: the telemetry receiver answered 200 to a trace batch tagged with a run id that does not exist (storage not re-verified; related to open public issue 216). Steps: prescreened (malware list, OSV, package index hash and yanked flag, entry points, bind-host source), installed the package with pip in a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home, ran doctor, tried the stub start, then retried with the workaround below; checked the catalog status, listed and showed missions, tried an unknown mission id (clear error), pulled a small static mission, registered an agent and created a run (Created state). Not tested: real Docker missions, run launch, grading, exports, adapters, web UI interaction.",
"fix": "On a host with no Docker, put a small stand-in 'docker' command on the PATH that answers only the bridge-gateway lookup with the loopback address 127.0.0.1 and fails everything else. The stub demo then boots and the REST API and telemetry receiver stay bound to loopback only, unlike setting the host to all interfaces. The mission library then works with no account or key when online.",

"task": "LAB RESULT: xorcise (queue entry added 2026-10-30). Quality 3/5. Prescreen caution (not malware; risky by design). Tested xorcise 0.2.1, a CLI plus local REST API and trace receiver for grading cyber-AI agents (not an MCP server), offline in a sandbox with no Docker: version, help and doctor; stub-mode server boot, status and shutdown; agent registration with bad input; judge model setup against a local fake model server; trace receiver edge cases; and the repo test suite. Works: CLI + local REST API (59 OpenAPI paths) + embedded OTLP/HTTP receiver; not an MCP server. Installed offline from the PyPI 0.2.1 wheel; xorcise --version, help, doctor (--json, exits 1 with clear blocker list and fix commands when Docker is missing) all fine. With the workaround below, 'xorcise up --stub' booted REST, UI (/ui 200) and OTLP on loopback; status/system/down worked. Agent register/list worked; duplicate name, empty name and unknown --kind (needs --yes) gave clear errors with exit 1/2. Judge BYOM: 'config set-model --key-stdin' against a self-written local fake OpenAI-compatible server stored the key masked, 'config test' made one real chat call and reported ok; dead port and a URL without scheme gave clear errors; --span-max-tokens alone is now accepted (issue #124 fix confirmed). OTLP receiver: JSON, gzip JSON and logs accepted; malformed JSON and garbage protobuf -> 400 'malformed OTLP body'; batch with no run id -> partialSuccess rejectedSpans 1; unknown path 404. 'catalog disconnect' then 'mission list' degrades cleanly; run status/report on an unknown id give clear errors. Repo unit+adapter tests: 3295 passed, 4 skipped, 21 failed (mostly no npm/docker/network in the sandbox).",

"error_text": "Version detail: 0.2.1 (PyPI wheel, identical to tag v0.2.1, commit 779ed9f55b9ce6619d112061d93d337b4c6ba8eb). Breaks: Bug: 'xorcise up --stub', documented as the self-contained demo for 'No Docker on the box?', fails on Linux when Docker is not installed: the server crashes on boot with a raw FileNotFoundError for 'docker' (it shells out to look up the Docker bridge gateway even in stub mode) and up reports only 'did not become healthy in 10s'. Workaround: set XORCISE_HOST=0.0.0.0 (skips the gateway lookup), but that binds the unauthenticated API on all interfaces, so only do it on an isolated host/network namespace. Bug: with no internet, 'mission list', 'mission show', 'mission pull' (also for a nonexistent id) and 'run create' return a bare 'request failed (500): Internal Server Error' instead of the 'catalog unreachable' message 'catalog status' shows; the bundled offline fixture missions are never used, so the stub demo has no missions and no run can be created offline. Doctor marks 'mission base' OK with 'catalog reports no promoted release' when the catalog was actually unreachable. 'config set-model --base-url not-a-url' is accepted without validation (caught later by config test). OTLP receiver returns 200 and stores telemetry for run ids that do not exist (e.g. 'abc'), despite its own message saying unknown run ids are rejected; related to open public issue #216. 4 unit tests need the network and 3 'no Docker' unit tests crash without a docker binary. Not tested: any real mission (Docker, privileged nested containers, /dev/net/tun and Headscale/Tailscale needed; not available in the sandbox and not run on the host), the online mission library, run create/launch/complete, grading with a judge on a real run, scores, reports/exports, leaderboard with data, Claude Code/Codex/OpenHands adapters, web UI interaction, upgrade migration 0009. Security notes (observed only): By design (documented): REST API and console are unauthenticated and the console's file picker can browse the host directory tree; missions are deliberately vulnerable and run in privileged nested containers. Run only on a disposable, isolated host as the project advises. Observed in 0.2.1: the unauthenticated OTLP receiver accepts and stores telemetry for any run id, including ids of runs that do not exist, with a 200 response. Related open public issue #216 (one run's agent can file evidence under another run). Users should not rely on grades from runs that share a host with untrusted agents until it is fixed. Observed in 0.2.1: on Linux, if the Docker bridge gateway cannot be found the server falls back to binding the unauthenticated API on all interfaces (documented in the architecture notes); the stub-mode workaround above also binds all interfaces. Keep such hosts firewalled.",
"fix": "On Linux without Docker, set the XORCISE_HOST environment variable to 0.0.0.0 before starting the stub-mode server so it skips the Docker bridge lookup. This exposes the unauthenticated API on all interfaces, so only do it on an isolated host or network namespace.",
