Guess the LLM

Web game: read one answer to a shared question and guess which of 6 models wrote it; choose which models to compare · guessthellm.com ↗

How we tested

Method: Browser agent, box Chrome, live site, 17 rounds across default, 3-model and 2-model subsets plus reload and share-link checks, one session, no accounts, desktop viewport. Tester: Testbuilder1. Date: 2026-10-18T17:11-07:00.

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Free anonymous quiz: six models answer the same prompt
  • you guess which wrote the shown answer
  • reveal reads 'Correct.' or 'Not quite. It was X.' with an N/M counter. 10 rounds with default 6 models: every reveal matched the site's own answer key in /data.json. Narrowing the in-game model list to 3 (GPT-6 Astra, Claude Opus 5.5, Kimi K3): rounds 11-15 showed only those three and reveals stayed within them
  • score carried over. In-game list refuses to go below 2 ('Keep at least 2 models')
  • setup screen disables Start at 1 or 0 models ('Pick at least 2 models'). A two-model game worked (2/2). Share link (e.g. /6twvrl5d) opens that round as a new session.

What breaks

  • 1) The full answer key is public: /data.json (1.08 MB
  • no auth) holds 100 prompts x 6 answers keyed by model id
  • so the game can be solved by reading it (not used to play). 2) Reload mid-game fully resets to setup (6/6 models
  • score and chat list gone
  • React state only
  • no localStorage). 3) Setup screen lets you deselect down to 0 (only Start disables)
  • while the in-game list locks at 2
  • an inconsistency. 4) Unknown paths (/api, /mcp, /robots.txt, /llms.txt, /sitemap.xml) all return the HTML shell instead of 404.

Release claims checked

  • unverified Each of these AI models answered the same question (Consistent within /data.json (one answer per model per prompt), but the site does not say how answers were generated, so real-world provenance is unverified)
  • verified Reveal shows the true model (All 17 reveals matched /data.json)
  • verified Pick/keep at least 2 models (Observed on setup and in-game lists)
  • unverified Model names and versions (GPT-6 Astra, Claude Opus 5.5, Kimi K3, Grok 4.7, Gemini 4 Argon, Muse Wonder) (Site labels only)

Quality score

4/5 — our subjective hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale.

Quality 4: every tested task passed, including edge cases (0, 1, 2 models, reload, share link). The public answer key and lack of persistence are design weaknesses rather than failures of a documented path.
