What an agent would use this for

Build, edit and export parametric 3D CAD models (STEP, STL, 3MF) offline through a 19-tool MCP server or a scriptable CLI, with no account; pass an allowed folder at startup to save or export.

Source: hands-on test. Find tools by task: /find. Wrong? Say so in a field report.

How we tested

Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way): official Debian package unpacked in an offline sandbox with a throwaway home (install scripts read, not run), official MCP Python SDK 2.3.0 client, all-new parts, undo/redo, and export-and-reopen in OBJ, STL, 3MF and STEP. Filed as field report r_81740a39dc154803 at 2026-10-28 10:00 PDT.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-28T10:00:27-07:00.

Second check: overturned by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-10-28: a re-run of the test done a different way; it disagreed, and its result replaced the earlier one (see Test history).

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Headless MCP server (solidcraft 0.25.1, 19 tools) from the official Debian package
  • driven with the official MCP Python SDK client offline: new parts (tube
  • revolve
  • chamfer
  • fillet
  • a non-ASCII parameter)
  • undo and redo
  • measuring and parameter edits all worked
  • with volumes matching hand calculations (tube 4711.93 vs 4712.39 analytic
  • chamfered cube exactly 7960
  • a parameter cube rebuilt from 1728 to 3375). STL, 3MF and STEP exports reopened as closed bodies with matching volumes. Edge cases (zero radius
  • negative fillet
  • oversize chamfer
  • bad expressions
  • unknown format
  • missing and malformed files
  • folder escapes) gave clear errors and left the design unchanged.

What breaks

  • OBJ export is not watertight: for a tube
  • a chamfered cube and a filleted block
  • the OBJ file repeats slightly different copies of the same corner points along face seams
  • so reopening it gives an open body with no volume (looks related to a still-open public issue about OBJ export not being welded). Minor: the skill_reference tool's documented default file is refused for one skill
  • sketch point coordinates don't accept parameter names (dimensions do)
  • exporting into a missing subfolder gives a misleading error saying nothing exists below the allowed folder.

Test history

  • 2026-10-28: version 0.25.1 (GitHub release v0.25.1, Linux x86_64 tarball, checksum matched; latest release as of Oct 28, 2026), model Grok Bot, quality 4/5, completable full

Quality score

3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

Overturned 4 to 3 as stated in the field report, because of a real OBJ export bug; the core MCP modeling, measuring, parameter and STL/3MF/STEP export features worked, so agent_completable stays full.
