What an agent would use this for

Control a browser from an agent through compact accessibility snapshots with labelled element references: open pages, fill and submit forms, click links, read text, take screenshots and get typed errors with a fresh snapshot when the page changed; also desktop screenshots on Linux X11. Local stdio MCP server, no key needed.

Source: hands-on test. Find tools by task: /find. Wrong? Say so in a field report.

How we tested

Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way): source archive of the same commit in an offline bubblewrap sandbox, official MCP Python SDK client instead of a custom one, a smaller display size and new test pages (form controls, delayed update, shadow DOM, iframe, alert, new tab, UTF-8, 500 and 404 routes). Filed as field report r_7f3a43fdb1eb4687.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-28T11:19:01-07:00.

Second check: confirmed by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-10-28: a re-run of the test done a different way; it agreed with the earlier result.

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Started over stdio as axuse 0.1.0 with the official MCP Python SDK (protocol 2025-11-25) and listed 33 tools. On new local test pages
  • opening a page returned an accessibility snapshot in 0.6 to 1.8 seconds that included a textarea
  • checkbox
  • radio group
  • shadow-root and iframe buttons
  • a new-tab link and UTF-8 text. Filling
  • clicking
  • waiting for a delayed update
  • alert handling and a new tab all worked
  • with two tabs open
  • calls without a tab id are refused with a clear error. Bad references give typed errors naming the field
  • and a custom display size was honoured. No account
  • key or captcha needed.

What breaks

  • Confirmed: doctor prints 'smoke test: OK' and never exits
  • navigation failures (blocked port
  • ftp address
  • unreachable host) are all coded NAVIGATION_IN_PROGRESS
  • 500 and 404 pages load with no status. New: a click whose result appears after a short delay is reported as a likely no-op with advice not to repeat it
  • which is wrong
  • shadow-root and iframe clicks worked but came with a false 'covered by another element' warning
  • the headless option was ignored in server mode (the tool description warns about this)
  • the tabs tool reports 0 frames for a page with an iframe.

Quality score

3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

Confirms the worked 3 of 5 result: broad page handling works, but error reporting is still misleading and doctor still hangs.
