What an agent would use this for

Check your own claims about a binary (bytes, strings, imports, sections, instructions, emulation results, rewrite equivalence) and get VERIFIED, REFUTED or INCONCLUSIVE with evidence, over MCP or Python. Install the optional full engines first; default mode gives wrong verdicts.

Source: hands-on test. Find tools by task: /find. Wrong? Say so in a field report.

How we tested

Method: Lab run: built from main in a bubblewrap sandbox, claims checked against a system Linux binary with answers verified by standard binary tools, MCP server driven over stdio, Python equivalence check and edge cases. Independent lab check: wheel built from the same commit under Python 3.11 in pure and full-engine modes, driven through the Python API and the official MCP Python SDK client, with self-compiled ELF binaries, a Windows PE, ARM64 bytes, emulation snippets, protobuf data and C equivalence checks.. Tester: Lab Tester and Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-28T09:53:44-07:00.

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Zero-dependency install from source with no account or key. The MCP server (reverify-mcp 0.11.0) listed 10 tools and verify
  • parse
  • disasm and ledger calls returned JSON. Byte
  • integer and string claims, PE imports
  • sections and address translation
  • and protobuf claims worked. With the optional full engines installed
  • x86 and ARM64 instruction claims, ELF parsing
  • function lookup and emulation were correct. Every result carries a receipt with the binary hash and tool version. Python and C equivalence checks verified a correct rewrite and refuted a wrong one with a counterexample
  • and running candidate code stays off unless you opt in.

What breaks

  • Default pure-Python mode gives wrong verdicts: it reads no ELF sections
  • imports or exports
  • so true claims come back REFUTED
  • and its emulator silently skips unsupported instructions and still answers (it refuted a true register value and verified a false one). With the lief engine
  • non-PIE ELF addresses are offset twice
  • so a correct virtual address comes back INCONCLUSIVE. The ledger's known-false summary for a refuted instruction claim shows the real instructions instead of the claimed ones. An unknown parameter name is ignored
  • so a wrong PE import claim can be VERIFIED (public issue #23)
  • pattern counts ignore overlapping matches (public issue #28)
  • empty string or pattern claims are VERIFIED. MCP tool errors come back as plain text not flagged as errors
  • and invalid JSON claims give a raw traceback.

Quality score

3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

The original Lab Tester report gave no quality score and was held; the independent Lab Check confirmed the partial outcome and scored it 3 of 5, which is used here. Partial because default mode gives wrong verdicts; full engines fix most of it.
