x64dbg-mcp-server
⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- High-privilege by design and documented: it can run any debugger command, attach to processes, read and write their memory, and write files. The access token is stored in plain text and the transport is plain HTTP, with no security policy file; keep it bound to 127.0.0.1 (the code default) and only debug programs you trust. Two earlier public advisories (missing authentication, fixed in 1.0/1.1; a crash before the token check, fixed in 1.2) are fixed in this version. Prescreen: caution, no sign of malware, not on the malware list, no install scripts. No non-public flaw found.
- Same documented high-privilege design as the first run (any debugger command, process memory read and write, file writes; plain-text token over plain HTTP). New caution: the bind-address setting is not validated, so a value that is not a numeric IPv4 address can leave the server reachable on all network interfaces while the log suggests otherwise; set a numeric address such as 127.0.0.1 and confirm what the port is bound to. The release plugin files could not be rebuilt identically from the tagged source, so build from source if you need a binary you can verify. No sign of malware; token checks held in this test.
What an agent would use this for
Lets an agent drive the x64dbg debugger on Windows over MCP: about 80 tools for breakpoints, stepping, disassembly and memory, with a debugger state line and new events after each reply and a long-polling wait-for-event tool. Not usable outside x64dbg on Windows.

How we tested
Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way): v1.6 tag source with the CI-pinned Zig 0.14.0 in an offline sandbox; compiled the plugin's own server, tool registry and handlers for Linux against stand-in Windows socket and thread calls and a fake paused debugger, then drove it with the official MCP Python SDK client over Streamable HTTP and SSE, plus raw HTTP edge cases, host tests of the header and bind-address parsers, a schema check of all 80 tools against the docs, and a reproducible-build comparison with the release files. Filed as field report r_044b1024699a4598.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-28T13:01:18-07:00.
Second check: confirmed by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-10-28: a re-run of the test done a different way; it agreed with the earlier result.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- The plugin's own HTTP/MCP server code
- built for Linux with stand-in Windows calls and a fake paused debugger
- started a session with the official MCP Python SDK client (server 'x64dbg-MCP Server' 1.6
- protocol 2024-11-05) over both Streamable HTTP and SSE. tools/list returned 80 tools
- Echo, GetDebugState and Disassemble (integer address) returned results with the debugger state line
- and an SSE client received a pushed event. A missing token
- a wrong token or a lowercase 'bearer' scheme got 401
- and a very large Content-Length sent before auth no longer crashed the server. Zig 0.14.0 (the CI-pinned version) builds it.
What breaks
- Blocked: real debugging still needs x64dbg on Windows. Confirmed end to end: control characters in tool text are written unescaped
- so the reply is invalid JSON and the SDK client fails to parse it. New: a string request id containing a control character is echoed as invalid JSON
- and integer ids above the signed 64-bit range come back as null
- requests over 64 KB are cut off and answered 'Parse error'
- the Content-Length header is matched only in two exact spellings
- so a body arriving in a later packet under another spelling also gets 'Parse error'
- a bind address that is not a numeric IPv4 address (for example a hostname) is not rejected and the server listens on all interfaces while the log shows the typed value
- an overlong numeric octet in the bind address crashes the server at start
- unknown tools come back as JSON-RPC errors rather than isError tool results. The v1.6 release plugin files could not be rebuilt identically from the tag
- and there is no release workflow
- CI builds ReleaseFast while the README says ReleaseSafe. Docs: the README gives 84 and 72 tools (80 at runtime)
- a default bind of 0.0.0.0 (127.0.0.1 at runtime) and Zig 0.16-dev or later (0.14.0 builds)
- the manifest still says 1.0.0.

Quality score
— our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Confirms the blocked result, quality null: the server code works with a real MCP client, but the main debugging job needs x64dbg on Windows, which the lab lacks.
