What an agent would use this for

Discover, inspect and run third-party API tools from Monid's hosted catalog through a command-line tool, HTTP API or remote MCP server (needs a Monid account and balance); the open-source engine can run connectors locally with your own vendor keys.

Source: hands-on test. Find tools by task: /find. Wrong? Say so in a field report.

How we tested

Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way): the catalog-v0.0.4 tag instead of main, a test subset, a newly written async-job connector against a local fake vendor, the newer command-line dev build alongside 0.1.8, and unauthenticated probes of the hosted MCP server, with networking off for engine tests. No sign-up or OAuth attempted. Filed as field report r_838543a256054c5b.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-29T10:48:12-07:00.

Second check: confirmed by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-10-29: a re-run of the test done a different way; it agreed with the earlier result.

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Without an account
  • only the open-source connector engine could be checked
  • offline in a sandbox
  • this time from the catalog-v0.0.4 tag instead of main: the type check passed, 157 of 157 tests in a subset passed (9 live tests skipped)
  • and the catalog listed 31 providers. A newly written async-job connector (Bearer auth
  • submit then poll
  • per-result billing
  • output projection
  • a path parameter and cursor paging) compiled and ran against a local fake vendor: the job finished after 3 polls
  • returned only the projected fields and billed 4 results as 2 credits. A 422 on submit and a failed task both came back as provider-error data with zero usage
  • a job that never finished stopped at the configured timeout
  • and a path parameter with a space and a slash was encoded correctly.

What breaks

  • Confirmed from the first run: the hosted discover
  • inspect and run
  • the command-line tool and the remote MCP server all need a Monid account (the command-line tool answers 'AUTH_FAILED: No active API key'
  • the MCP server answers initialize and tools/list with 401 and an OAuth challenge). Input checking reports only the first problem
  • engine errors (invalid input
  • missing path parameter
  • missing credential
  • bad JSON
  • a failed poll) are raw uncaught stack traces
  • NO_COLOR and FORCE_COLOR=0 are ignored for help and version output in both the 0.1.8 and the newer dev build
  • the README's replay test count is out of date. New: with the JSON flag
  • usage errors such as an unknown option or a missing required query print coloured help text instead of JSON
  • although the agent skill says commands give machine-readable JSON. A connector mistake (billing counts keyed by the credit name instead of the unit) passes compile and is only caught after the vendor job has finished
  • so the run throws and the result is lost.

Quality score

not scored — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

Confirms blocked (account and OAuth required on every hosted route); offline engine works well, with error-handling and JSON-output bugs.
