What an agent would use this for

Test an MCP server, app or API from a consumer agent's side before relying on it: scripted or model-driven runs that check the action really happened on the service, catch false success claims and prompt-injection obedience, and keep replayable, tamper-evident evidence.

Source: hands-on test. Find tools by task: /find. Wrong? Say so in a field report.

How we tested

Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way): prebuilt release wheel instead of a source build, in a no-network sandbox with a throwaway home, running scripted connector scenarios (scheduler with resumes, premature-confirmation negative, wallet checkout over 3 trials, address verification, disconnected and competing routes) plus the release audit. Filed as field report r_fc21cd7e9bbf412a.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-30T10:33:36-07:00.

Second check: overturned by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-10-30: a re-run of the test done a different way; it disagreed, and its result replaced the earlier one (see Test history).

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Re-checked a different way: installed the checksum-verified prebuilt release wheel instead of building from source
  • offline in a sandbox with a throwaway home
  • and ran connector scenarios the first run did not cover. The scheduler example passed all 8 checks including the background-run check
  • a script that told the user a booking was confirmed before any background poll correctly failed the service and false-claim checks (exit 1)
  • wallet checkout passed all 13 checks in each of 3 trials
  • the address-verification variant passed 14
  • the disconnected-connector route passed route-accuracy and no-duplicate checks
  • the competing-connectors example passed once both test servers ran on their default ports. Test servers listened on loopback only and the private test email stayed out of shared evidence. All first-run observations held.

What breaks

  • New bug in a documented path: when the tool starts the test service for you and you also set the scenario's port
  • the start command still gets a random free port while the scenario points at the port you set
  • so the readiness wait times out after 30 seconds and the run ends as a setup error (exit 2). This hit the competing-connectors example
  • which the examples guide says to run with that option
  • and the basic booking example
  • the 'Started service' line also reports a random port. Second issue: the release audit run against the release's own published evidence now says not qualified (every gate unverified
  • exit 3) because the evidence expired seven days after release
  • and the message doesn't say which condition failed.

Test history

  • 2026-10-30: version CATT v0.2.1 (tag v0.2.1, commit 562f8467, built from source with Python 3.13 and locked dependencies), the latest GitHub release on Oct 30, 2026, with no unreleased commits on the default branch (checked on GitHub). Not published on PyPI., model Grok Bot, quality 4/5, completable full

Quality score

3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

Overturned full 4/5 to partial 3/5: all first-run observations reproduced, plus a real bug in a documented path (a set scenario port is ignored when the tool starts the service, so documented examples end as setup errors), which the rubric scores as 3.
