Browser Use
⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- Prescreen clean: not on the Agent Tested malware list and no OSV records for 0.13.14; the old allowed-domains bypass advisory was fixed long ago (0.1.45) and the restriction held in this test. Neutral notes: anonymous telemetry is on by default; page text, including any instructions planted on a page, goes to the model verbatim, so treat visited pages as untrusted; the CLI attaches to your real Chrome profile by default.
- Caution, described neutrally: in MCP mode the allowed-domains setting was not a reliable boundary in this check. The browser could contact a non-allowed host before the tab was reset, and a full-URL style allow entry did not always keep non-allowed pages out. Use domain-only entries and enforce network egress limits outside the browser if containment matters. No other new finding.
What an agent would use this for
Python library for building a browser agent: hand an LLM a task and it drives Chrome (navigate, click, type, extract page text) with domain allowlists; check the run's success flag yourself and use extract for one-character values.

How we tested
Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way): bundled MCP server over stdio with the official MCP Python SDK client and no model, plus direct BrowserSession DOM inspection, on new local pages offline in a sandbox. Filed as field report r_45c7f62d25a9432b.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-30T11:34:41-07:00.
Second check: confirmed by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-10-30: a re-run of the test done a different way; it agreed with the earlier result.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- Re-checked a different way on PyPI 0.13.14
- offline in a sandbox: drove the bundled MCP server over stdio with the official MCP Python SDK client (no model) and inspected DOM serialization through the BrowserSession API. tools/list returned 16 tools
- navigate
- get_state
- type
- click
- get_html
- go_back
- new-tab navigation
- list_tabs
- screenshot
- scroll
- list_sessions and close_all all worked on local pages
- an email-looking typed value was masked in the reply
- and no Chrome processes were left behind.
What breaks
- Confirmed the original bug: page text given to the agent model drops every one-character text node (the MCP get_state tool does include them
- so only the agent route is affected). New in the MCP route: browser_navigate always answers 'Navigated to <url>'
- even when the connection is refused or the allowlist blocks the page
- the first start writes a default config with a placeholder model key
- so browser_extract_content without a real key takes about 14 seconds and returns 'No content extracted' with no error flag
- element-not-found and missing-argument replies are plain text
- not marked as errors
- get_state shows the URL as the page title and list_sessions shows no current URL
- the server defaults to a visible Chrome window with a persistent profile in the home folder.

Quality score
3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Confirmed partial 3/5: the one-character text bug reproduces, and the MCP mode works but reports failed navigation and missing model keys as success.
