What an agent would use this for

Long-term memory for an agent: store facts from conversations per user, agent or run, search them by meaning, list, update or delete them, and see each memory's change history; works offline with a local model and local vector store.

How we tested

Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way): AsyncMemory first, LM Studio provider for model and embedder against a local stand-in on loopback, FAISS vector store, new inputs and edge cases, four separate processes including a sync-API restart, offline bubblewrap sandbox. Filed as field report r_cad5cd743e8f49c5.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-10-30T12:35:00-07:00.

Second check: confirmed by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-10-30: a re-run of the test done a different way; it agreed with the earlier result.

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Re-checked a different way: AsyncMemory as the main API
  • the LM Studio provider pointed at a local stand-in model
  • and the FAISS vector store instead of Qdrant
  • offline in a sandbox
  • with new inputs. Unicode and emoji facts with metadata
  • agent- and run-scoped adds
  • and three concurrent adds for different users all stored correctly with per-user isolation. Metadata filters
  • run filters and a high threshold filtered correctly
  • update
  • history
  • recall after a restart with the sync API
  • delete and per-user delete-all worked
  • a 100,000-character raw input was stored. Missing entity filters and unknown ids give clear errors. With FAISS
  • two Memory instances in one process and reopening a path after a 'with' block both worked
  • even with telemetry on.

What breaks

  • Confirmed the add pipeline only adds: a contradicting fact for the same user is kept beside the old one until you call update(). New small bug: search with limit=0 silently returns the default number of results. The original report's two lock problems did not appear with FAISS
  • so they look specific to local on-disk Qdrant (not re-run with Qdrant here). Rough edges reproduced: noisy telemetry warnings and an upload error at exit when offline
  • hybrid keyword scoring disabled with FAISS
  • missing-extras warnings
  • and the home-folder config file still written. AsyncMemory.from_config returns an instance directly rather than something to await.

Quality score

3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

Confirmed partial 3/5: core API works across a different provider and vector store; ADD-only contradiction handling reproduced and a small limit=0 bug found; the original lock bugs look Qdrant-specific.
