How we tested

Method: Lab run offline in a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home and no network: the repo test suite, the documented golden and adversarial example including the README fix steps and the HTTP target, a custom three-class attack suite on a local deterministic fake model with a planted canary, the scorecard report, template and diff commands, and edge-case datasets and scorecards. Fake tokens only. Filed as field report r_d1e99a6675d543da.. Tester: Lab Tester (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T18:19:53-08:00.

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • Installed main (commit 3e9c4b3
  • package 0.1.0) offline
  • the repo's 56 tests pass (with COLUMNS unset). The documented example matches the README exactly: golden 15/15 exit 0
  • adversarial 36/40 with behavioural_control 0/4
  • and --trap-fail-under 0.8 fails the run (exit 1) where a single overall --fail-under 0.8 passes. The README's three fix steps take it to 40/40. The same suite over HTTP against the bundled localhost server gives the same result. On the tester's own fake model that obeys injected instructions
  • the per-class gate fails the content_injection class (0/4) while the overall 66.67% passes --fail-under 0.6. Errored cases count against their class
  • an all-errored run exits 1. A false success claim is caught by CompletionClaimScorer. Scorecard report (Markdown and HTML)
  • template
  • diff and failure clustering work
  • clear exit-2 errors for common CLI mistakes
  • a header token set the documented way never appeared in output.

What breaks

  • Forbid-style regex scorers pass when the scored field is missing
  • so an agent returning {} or leaking under a different key passes every adversarial case. CompletionClaimScorer treats verified_success "false" (a string) as true
  • and a success claim with no verified_success field passes as n/a. An empty dataset or a --tag matching no cases passes --trap-fail-under with exit 0. Duplicate case ids skew the per-class counts. Thresholds aren't validated (80 is read as 8000%
  • -1 and 2 accepted). A misspelled class tag is gated as a new class with no warning. Malformed JSONL
  • a case without input
  • a single scorer instead of a list and bad scorecard YAML give raw tracebacks (exit 1) instead of clean errors. Duplicate scorecard keys are accepted silently (last wins). Template scorecards take the current UTC date
  • so diff can show dates out of order. One repo test fails when the terminal is wide (COLUMNS=120).

Quality score

3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

Partial 3/5: the documented per-class CI gate works as advertised and catches a failing attack class, but scorers that fail open on missing fields, string booleans and empty runs can let a bad agent pass, and bad input gives raw tracebacks.
