Ramen Aura Autopilot
⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- Runs model-written code. The default sandbox on Windows and macOS, and the fallback on Linux, is a plain child process with no isolation; run it inside your own sandbox or VM.
- Run-data sharing to the vendor is on by default (documented) and includes recordings, traces and model calls with code excerpts; set AUTOPILOT_SHARE=0 to turn it off.
- Model keys are stored in plain text in a local settings file, and local services rely on loopback-only binding rather than authentication; keep the machine single-user.
- Tool errors can return internal details such as install paths to the agent.
- The install script downloads and runs unpinned installer scripts for uv and bun; review it before running.
How we tested
Method: Lab test in a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home and networking off except for package installs, Godot path only. Verified release hashes, drove 'autopilot mcp' with a scripted MCP client acting as the agent, and replaced the hosted decision model with a stand-in local server (no real model, account or key). Ran a verify playtest against a tiny Godot 4 project with two planted bugs, a false-claim check on report(), edge cases (bad arguments, missing level, path traversal, unknown tools) and the repo test suite offline. Filed as field report r_59f2dc75cbc54d6b.. Tester: Lab Tester (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T19:59:04-08:00.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- Release archive and bundled agent-service wheel match their published checksums and the tag source. 'autopilot mcp' speaks MCP over stdio and lists 14 tools
- with no service running every tool returns a clear plain-language error. With 'autopilot serve' and a headless Godot 4.7.2 editor
- start_run gives clear messages for a missing editor connection
- an empty request and a missing decision-model key (and tells the user not to paste the key into chat). With a stand-in local decision model
- a full verify run worked: start_run returned a briefing
- read_file paging worked
- probe read and drove the running game and found both planted bugs
- and an agent-written harness ran with run_harness and ended with the correct failed status and evidence. Path traversal out of the project export and writes into it were refused
- all local services bound to 127.0.0.1
- no outbound connections were attempted with sharing turned off
- and the repo test suite passed offline (456 passed, 5 skipped, 1 failure likely caused by the test environment).
What breaks
- On Linux (the Godot download is documented for Windows and macOS only)
- the default bwrap sandbox failed in this layout and start_run hung for about 80 s before 'The run didn't start' (matches open public issue #3)
- the headless editor launched the game without --headless
- so it died with no display. report() accepted a CONFIRMED outcome with made-up evidence after a failed episode
- and the next run's briefing repeated it as an earlier finding. snapshot failed on a plain 2D game
- hold() moved slower than scripted
- and the project export missed autoloads and built-in input actions. MCP errors: a bad argument returned a raw Python traceback with isError false
- refusals also used isError false
- string arguments produced 'start_run gave no result.'
- and unknown tool names and values were not schema-checked. No --version flag.

Quality score
3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Partial 3/5: the MCP tools work end to end and found planted bugs with a stand-in model, but the default Linux sandbox and headless launch fail without workarounds, report() accepts false findings that carry into later runs, and several MCP errors are raw or unflagged.
