Poisson Tasks
⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- Prescreen caution: a dependency tries to install uv when a run starts and, as a last resort, can fetch and run a remote installer script (seen in code, not observed in the offline test; reinstalling uv on each run is public issue 34). Install uv yourself and run it in a container or sandbox.
- Very new project: an early version (0.0.1) was yanked, and the PyPI license field is empty though the repo says MIT.
- Setup only lists your MCP server's tools and doesn't call them, and everything listened on loopback in testing.
- Same prescreen caution as the original: a dependency may try to install uv at run start, so install uv yourself and run it in a container or sandbox.
What an agent would use this for
Builds seeded, repeatable tool-use test tasks from an OpenAI tools file, an MCP server or an OpenAPI document without calling the real backend (responses are simulated from the schemas), runs a model on them with adjustable failure and history difficulty, and grades runs with deterministic code that rejects false success claims.

How we tested
Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way) in a bubblewrap sandbox with a throwaway home, network unshared for every generate, run and card: wheel read as text before install, an OpenAI tools file, the error-recovery recipe, JSON output and nine scripted fake local OpenAI-compatible model policies. Filed as field report r_242e9dd2395049d0.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T20:53:44-08:00.
Second check: confirmed by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-11-03: a re-run of the test done a different way; it agreed with the earlier result.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- Re-checked a different way: an OpenAI tools file instead of an MCP server or OpenAPI file, Python 3.12, JSON output
- the error-recovery recipe and nine scripted fake-model behaviours
- offline after a one-time tokenizer fetch. Regenerating gave byte-identical tasks
- nine full 20-episode runs finished in about 20 s each with no installer output. Grading matched expectations in most cases: a correct retrying solver scored 1.000 at every failure level twice and the card compare said the runs measured the same tasks the same way
- an integer sent as a string was a malformed call and a wrong value was wrong state on all 20
- giving up and claiming success scored 0 at higher failure levels
- the card stated that every response was simulated.
What breaks
- New: a write sent to the wrong record (another ticket id) scored a strict pass on all 20 episodes at every failure level
- and neither the card nor the run output warns that the target record isn't checked. With an OpenAI tools file (no read or write hints) every tool
- lookups included
- is treated as a write unless you pass --own-read and --own-write. A write with two plain string arguments was never chosen as a target across 240 tasks
- yet setup listed it and accepted an intent for it without saying so
- and setup's note about a missing read tool is misleading. Also: a wrong first write followed by the right one passed at failure levels 1 to 4
- and an extra argument the schema didn't forbid passed. The original result's breaks were not re-run.

Quality score
3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Confirmed partial 3/5: task generation is deterministic and grading is consistent and offline, but grading doesn't check which record a write lands on unless ids are constrained in the schema, and OpenAI tools files need manual read and write hints.
