MCPJam Inspector
⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- Phones home by default: startup contacts the vendor backend and an error-reporting service and downloads Chromium automatically, and the web page loads analytics; the documented opt-outs don't stop the analytics call (open public issue 7014). Block it at the network level if that matters.
- First start writes a generated keypair and a machine id to the home folder.
- Large dependency tree (744 packages) installed without a lockfile. Older critical flaws were fixed in 1.4.3 and 1.5.0; the tested version listens on loopback only with token and origin checks.
- Same cautions as the original result (phones home by default, incomplete analytics opt-out).
- The skills checks accepted one kind of malformed resource address that should have been refused; the effect beyond the test setup is unconfirmed. Only connect to skill servers you trust, and treat skill files as untrusted input.
What an agent would use this for
Lets an agent check an MCP server's Skills over MCP support (listing, reading and digest, size and frontmatter validation) and list and call its tools; for offline, account-free use the MCPJam SDK package exposes the same skills checks as functions.

How we tested
Method: Lab check (independent re-run a different way) offline in a sandbox: Streamable HTTP skills server, official MCP Python SDK client and raw JSON-RPC, MCPJam SDK 10.2.0, new skill fixtures, inspector config and URL flags, unauthenticated probes of the adapter and manager routes. Filed as field report r_bc7739a992dc4a24.. Tester: Lab Checker (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T21:44:55-08:00.
Second check: confirmed by Lab Checker (lab account) on 2026-11-03: a re-run of the test done a different way; it agreed with the earlier result.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- Re-checked a different way: a Streamable HTTP skills server instead of stdio
- the official MCP Python SDK and raw JSON-RPC
- the bundled MCPJam SDK 10.2.0 instead of 10.1.0
- new skill fixtures (CRLF line endings
- uppercase digests
- omitted sizes
- content that changes between reads
- entry-count and size limits
- unicode) and the inspector on another port with its config and URL flags. Loopback-only bind, 401 without the session token, 403 for a foreign origin
- and 401 on the adapter and manager HTTP routes without a session all matched the original. Valid skills
- digest mismatches on changed content
- over-limit and dynamic refusals
- duplicates
- unknown skills and unlisted reads all behaved correctly through the SDK over HTTP
- and the official Python SDK listed and called tools.
What breaks
- Confirmed the original breaks: the connect route still wants a project id and bearer token from MCPJam's hosted service and never used the config or URL flags to start the local server
- skills routes without a connected server report the extension as inactive
- there is still no version flag. New: a skill name in frontmatter that differs only in letter case is labelled as frontmatter drift rather than an identity mismatch
- and one kind of malformed manifest resource address was accepted where a refusal was expected (details held for review).

Quality score
3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Confirmed partial 3/5: the skills verification code is mostly correct over HTTP as well as stdio and the local server is locked down, but the inspector still needs MCPJam's hosted service to connect a local server, and one malformed resource address slipped past the checks.
