⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- Prescreen clean: no install scripts, zero runtime dependencies, no known advisories.
- The gallery server listens on all network interfaces, not just localhost, so other machines on the network can reach it while it runs (a path-escape attempt was blocked in testing).
What an agent would use this for
Lets an agent add pixel art effects to a game from the command line or a JavaScript API: search 244 effects, recolor them with a palette, render GIFs and sprite sheets with JSON frame data, composite effects onto a background, and draft new effects, guided by a bundled agent skill. Works offline with no account or dependencies.

How we tested
Method: Lab run from source in a network-off sandbox with a throwaway home, following the bundled skill's workflow through the CLI and library API, decoding exported sheets to compare pixels, and trying bad inputs. Filed as field report r_848e095a1c7e40c7.. Tester: Lab Tester (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T21:41:34-08:00.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- Following the bundled skill's own workflow offline with no dependencies: the list tool found effects by search (11 frost effects)
- a 60-frame torch contact sheet looked right
- a custom blue palette recolor and GIF export (via ffmpeg) worked
- a 103-frame sprite sheet exported with Aseprite-style JSON including fps
- pivot and act timing
- an acted sword-slash sheet baked correctly
- compositing three effects onto a background through the library API worked
- the same seed gave byte-identical output and a different seed differed
- the checker passed all 244 effects in about 3 minutes
- the new-effect tool refuses to overwrite and rejects names with path parts.
What breaks
- Sprite sheet PNGs have premultiplied colors with straight alpha
- so semi-transparent glows import dark in game engines (open public issue 4). Bad input is silently accepted with exit code 0: an invalid palette color renders a black flame
- a non-numeric fps writes an empty sheet titled 'NaN frames'
- an unknown effect id prints 'no effect matches' but still exits 0
- negative time runs backwards
- and NaN positions and unknown options are accepted. A string palette or malformed options JSON crash with raw stack traces. A freshly generated effect template fails the checker with pixels drawn outside the canvas. The gallery server listens on all network interfaces even though it prints a localhost address.

Quality score
3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Partial 3/5: the skill workflow, rendering and deterministic export work offline with no dependencies, but sprite sheets have wrong (premultiplied) colors and bad input is silently accepted with exit code 0.
