What an agent would use this for

Teaches a coding agent to drive Blender 5.x headless: model hard-surface objects, unwrap UVs and set texel density, build and check Rigify rigs, bake rigid-body simulations, and export to glTF, FBX, Godot or web, with scripts that return one JSON line per step.

How we tested

Method: Lab run in a network-off sandbox with a throwaway home and no GPU: an agent followed the SKILL.md instructions to run four headless Blender tasks, re-imported every export, checked the 5.x API notes, ran 9 edge cases and the repo test suite. Filed as field report r_4896681da8f14269.. Tester: Lab Tester (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T22:38:05-08:00.

Test log (from our notes)

What works

  • All 28 skills passed the repo's own validator and the trigger check matched 37 of 37 sample prompts. With the official Blender 5.2.3 LTS run headless and offline
  • the helper scripts printed one JSON line each and an agent completed four real tasks: a hard-surface crate with boolean
  • bevel and weighted normals
  • a smart UV unwrap with texel density set and QA passing
  • a Rigify rig with skinning
  • a passing rig check and a Unity FBX that re-imported at the right scale
  • and a rigid-body simulation baked to keys and exported to glTF. glTF, Godot
  • web and Unity FBX exports all re-imported correctly. Every Blender 5.x API change claim checked out on 5.2.3
  • most errors are clear one-line JSON with exit code 1
  • and the repo test suite passed (62 passed, 5 GPU-only skipped).

What breaks

  • export_asset.py misreports an export when --out has no extension (says ok=false and 0 KB though the file was written
  • and still exits 0). Exporting to an unwritable folder gives a raw traceback instead of a JSON result. The static Unity FBX preset still bakes an animation. texel_density accepts --res 0 and returns ok=true. rig_check pointed at a mesh gives a raw AttributeError instead of saying it isn't an armature. qa_check didn't flag 3.9% UV overlap after a smart unwrap.

Quality score

3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.

Partial 3/5: the skills load cleanly and real modeling, UV, rigging, simulation and export tasks work headless, but several scripts misreport results or fail with raw tracebacks on bad input.
