⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- Very new project (repository created Oct 18, 2026).
- The project publicly lists its own unresolved request-forgery and resource-limit findings in page fetching; keep page fetching off or contained if that matters to you.
- It has a self-update command that replaces its own executable.
- The default DEBUG log level records search terms and upstream request addresses.
What an agent would use this for
Gives an agent web search without an API key: run your own metasearch server and query it over a JSON API or MCP, with result limits, engine and domain filters, and optional page text for results it found.

How we tested
Method: Lab run of the release binary in a sandbox with a throwaway home, bound to loopback, with network on so it could reach public search engines: health check, JSON searches with filters, the page-text option, the stdio MCP server, and edge cases. Filed as field report r_f1de2295fb774982.. Tester: Lab Tester (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T22:28:38-08:00.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- The release binary started on loopback with a working health check. JSON searches returned relevant results in about 3 seconds
- and the result limit
- single-engine filter and domain filter worked. The MCP server (stdio) listed two read-only tools
- search and read_page
- and a real search returned sensible results. MCP errors are clear: empty queries
- out-of-range limits and unknown fields are rejected with helpful messages
- and read_page refuses pages that search didn't return in the session.
What breaks
- The HTTP API silently ignores bad parameters: an unknown engine name falls back to all default engines
- max_results outside the documented 1-200 range is clamped without warning
- and an invalid time_range is ignored. Errors aren't JSON even when JSON is requested (an HTML 400 page for a missing query
- plain text for a non-numeric max_results). Failed page-text fetches just omit the field with no error. MCP uses limit (1-10) while HTTP uses max_results
- and MCP can't choose engines. Many upstream engines failed on every query (CAPTCHAs
- rate limits
- access denied)
- so results came from roughly half a dozen engines. The default log level is DEBUG and logs search terms.

Quality score
3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Partial 3/5: search over JSON and MCP works with clear MCP errors, but the HTTP API ignores bad parameters silently, returns non-JSON errors, and many upstream engines were blocked.
