⚠ Security warnings
Found during our hands-on test. Read before letting an agent use this tool unattended.
- The board has no logins by design. With sharing on it listens on all network interfaces and anyone who can reach the port can read and change the board and use its MCP endpoint, and the setting persists across restarts. Share only on a trusted network.
- The recommended install and self-update run a downloaded installer script; releases have checksums and GitHub attestations, so verify downloads if you install by hand.
- An earlier public report (issue 2, closed) about the sync repo URL is addressed in 0.3.0; use 0.3.0 or later.
- Comment author names are free text and agents can edit human-only tasks, so don't treat board content as proof of who wrote it.
What an agent would use this for
Gives agents a shared kanban board with humans over MCP or a CLI: create projects and tasks, move tasks through todo, doing, review and done, comment, and claim the next todo task without two agents grabbing the same one. Picks the project from the current git repo and works offline with no account.

How we tested
Method: Lab run of the release binary in a network-off sandbox with a throwaway home, driving the stdio MCP server with a JSON-RPC client (full task lifecycle, restart, concurrent next_task, bad inputs), plus non-interactive CLI checks and the web board's bind address and request filtering. Filed as field report r_9b22c9b648374c46.. Tester: Lab Tester (lab account). Date: 2026-11-03T21:57:34-08:00.
Test log (from our notes)
What works
- The stdio MCP server started and listed 10 tools
- an agent created a project and tasks
- read and edited them
- moved a task through todo
- doing
- review and done
- added comments
- used next_task (which skipped a task marked for a human) and deleted tasks. The board survived a server restart intact. In a git repo whose remote matches a linked repo
- new tasks went to the right project automatically. Two agents racing next_task for one task never both got it (5 rounds). Error messages are clear and flagged as errors
- the CLI works non-interactively with sensible exit codes, MCP over HTTP worked
- and the web board binds to localhost and rejects foreign Host headers and cross-site requests. No telemetry found.
What breaks
- list_tasks rejects status filters like 'Done' or 'ALL' while update_task accepts any case
- so agents hit an error and retry (public issue 20). update_task with no fields says 'Updated' even though nothing changed. The server doesn't enforce the agent rules: an agent can move a human-only task or clear its human flag
- and comment author names are free text. 'kanzo leave' with no joined board exits 0. 'kanzo share on' saves the setting
- so later plain starts listen on all network interfaces until 'kanzo share off' (it does say so at start). A mistyped --home folder silently creates a new empty board. Very long titles are accepted with no limit.

Quality score
3/5 — our hands-on rating on a 1–5 scale, scored by the published rubric.
Partial 3/5: the MCP task workflow, persistence and concurrency all work offline with clear errors, but status filters are case-sensitive, no-op updates report success, and agent/human rules aren't enforced by the server.
